15 acts remain in the running to represent Austria in Liverpool
For the seventh year in a row, the Austrian broadcaster ORF has decided to select their entry for the Eurovision Song Contest internally. The news magazine Kleine Zeitung has now revealed more details on how the selection process is going in Austria.
15 acts have been invited to perform at internal live-castings on the past weekend. The artists have been chosen by selected scouts, including Eberhard Forcher and music producer Lukas Hillebrand. The casting videos will now be judged by a jury of 25 members, including both Austrian and international music experts, and several Eurovision fan clubs will be surveyed as well.
Out of the jury’s favorite acts, the winner will then be decided by ORF’s program director Stefanie Groiss-Horowitz and the Head of Entertainment, Alexander Hofer. Kleine Zeitung reports that the people in charge are aiming for a good result in Liverpool, after three non-qualifications in a row.
At the Eurovision Song Contest 2022 in Turin, Austria was represented by LUM!X and Pia Maria with “Halo” and missed out on the grand final, finishing 15th in the first semi final, and were even ranked last by the European juries.
Pia Maria recently released her new song “White Noise“, where she is dealing with a love encounter. Furthermore, she is open to the idea of returning to the Eurovision Song Contest for her home nation Austria. You can watch our interview with Pia Maria about her Eurovision experience, in our Torino Throwback series below!
