Gjon’s Tears: ”If I had the chance to do it again, ‘’why not?’’”

Thursday the 17th of November, one of the largest Eurovision-themed concerts there is took place for the second time. It’s Het Grote Songfestivalfeest (English: The Big Eurovision Song Contest Party), being held in the Ziggo Dome in Amsterdam. A wide variety of Eurovision stars, from those having competed decades ago to as recent as this year performed for an audience of around 12,000 excited fans.
Earlier that afternoon, ESCBubble had the chance to speak to some of the performing artists.
This time: Gjon’s Tears!

After the great success it yielded the year before, Switzerland once again opted for an internal selection for Eurovision 2020. The outcome was that Gjon Muharremaj, was chosen to represent his country. His artist name of Gjon’s Tears comes from the fact that when he was 12, he moved his grandfather to tears by performing Elvis Presley’s ‘Can’t Help Falling In Love With You’. The 2020 contest was cancelled, but they asked him to return the year after! And so he sang his entry in Rotterdam: ‘Tout l’Univers’.
Right before Het Grote Songfestivalfeest, I asked Gjon about what he achieved in Rotterdam and also: would he ever return to Eurovision?

When you competed in Rotterdam, you reached the highest placing for Switzerland in almost 30 years! How proud did that make you feel?

Phew, I was very proud of course, but don’t put that amazing pressure on me haha. No, but I was really happy to show my music, it was interesting. And I didn’t realise it back then, to be honest, it took me months, really, to realise that, but I’m happy I experienced all this. And now that it has sunk in, of course I feel proud. I gotta be!

I was gonna ask you if you would do it all over again, but earlier you were mentioning pressure. Does  that mean you wouldn’t come back to Eurovision?

Why not! No, the thing is: it takes a lot of time to do Eurovision, all the preparation, from the very beginning until the end of the process. And right now I’m really working hard on my album. If I had the chance to do it again, ‘’why not?’’, but it’s not gonna be now for sure.

You already kind of answered my next question, as I was gonna ask what your current projects are!

Yes, working on my album indeed! And now I also released my first single ‘Pure’, which has been released on all the platform, as the video for that is coming soon as well.

We’ll be looking forward to that!

Thank you, I hope you all will like it!
