Mia Nicolai & Dion Cooper will represent The Netherlands at Eurovision 2023
A radio broadcast on NPO radio 2 has just unveiled it: it will be a duo for The Netherlands! The low countries will be represented at the Eurovision Song Contest 2023 in Liverpool by: Mia Nicolai & Dion Cooper! A unanimous decision by the Dutch selection committee after hearing the song.
It was Eurovision winner Duncan Laurence who, together with his partner Jordan, surprised Mia and Dion by giving them a call and delivering the good news. See how that went down:

It’s no coincidence that it’s Duncan and Jordan who called Mia & Dion, as the dutch 2023 duo were actually brought together by Duncan and Jordan! The four of them have teamed up and have written a song that impressed the selection committee that much, that they had no choice but to unanimously declare them the Dutch 2023 representatives! Duncan and Jordan will be part of the creative team.
Who is Mia Nicolai?
Mia is 26 years old and has basically grown up with music. She has had a creative upbringing from home already. Not only music, but also ballet, telling stories and theatre. On top of that she has also been taking piano and violin lessons since she was three years old.
Although her home situation was happy, Mia has been bullied when she was little. It did leave a mark on her but also ignited a fire within her that made her persevere, lets nothing stop her and made her determined to enjoy life exactly the way she wants it. ”Your past doesn’t dictate your future” is her philosohpy, you can take matters into your own hands. ”You can shape yourself into the person you dream to be”.
Who is Dion Cooper?
Dion is 28 years old and has always dreamt of becoming and artist and making music. Where Mia started playing at 3, Dion did so at 15 by picking up a guitar, but since then he has never put it down! When asked to describe his musical style, he says it’s ”classic rock meets singer songwriter, so: Bryan Adams meets Harry Styles”.
Dion’s philosophy in life is ”Bring the Joy”. He is on a journey to become the best version of himself and wants to share all the knowledge, happiness and joy he meets along the way. His message is: ”You can create happiness by taking matter into your own hands and you use those hands to share it!”.
Mia & Dion brought together
Right now they are a duo, but that wasn’t always the case: until two years ago, Mia and Dion didn’t even know eachother! Duncan and Jordan knew of both of them, though, and thinking their voices would mix so well together, the two were introduced to eachother. They even have similar outlooks on life and can use music as a languages to share that with the world.
Upon being chose to perform on one of the biggest stages in the world, they say:
“The Eurovision Song Contest is the stage where people can see what you have to bring as an artist. After all these years of working hard to translate our feelings into music, this is a great opportunity to tell our story on such a large scale. It feels fantastic and still a bit surreal that the selection committee of AVROTROS has chosen our song, but we are ready to bring something positive to Europe.”
Their song for the Eurovision Song Contest in Liverpool will be revealed at a later date.
