Rai reveals names for Area Sanremo 2022

This morning, Rai announced the names of the 20 acts who will be competing in a qualifying round of auditions for Sanremo Giovani, known as Area Sanremo.

Online auditions have screened 549 potential acts over the past two months, and tomorrow, the top acts from this list will perform for the Rai Music Commission, made up of Amadeus, Sanremo’s eponymous host and artistic director, as well as Federica Lentini, Leonardo de Amicis and Massimo Martelli.

Sanremo Giovani literally means “Young Sanremo”, and will be made up of 12 up-and-coming artists hoping to compete at the festival for the first time. Four of the Area Sanremo acts will go through to face the eight already-announced finalists of Sanremo Giovani, who will then perform on 16th December to determine which three acts will compete at Sanremo 2023, the 73rd edition of the national song festival. If an act qualifies for Sanremo, they will compete with a different song in February.
