Al Bano named head juror for Sammarinese national final
With a month to go before the final of Una voce per San Marino, broadcaster SMRTV has issued some more details about the upcoming shows.
Al Bano will have a busy month of February. He will take part in the Sanremo Festival in Italy as a special guest, before heading to San Marino to head the jury for its national final.
Al Bano married Romina Power in 1970, and the couple sang together for nearly three decades and made it to the Eurovision stage twice. The couple placed 7th for Italy in 1976 and again in 1985. He even provided backing vocals at Eurovision 2000 for Switzerland.
He is a big name that will shine light on Eurovision’s smallest country.
Tonight at 20:55 CET, SMRTV will broadcast a special program about Achille Lauro’s victory and trip to Eurovision in 2022.
Meanwhile the third phase of casting is set to finish on Sunday, with a fourth and final round planned for mid-February. Only then, will we know the full list of semifinalists who will go on to compete for San Marino’s ticket to Liverpool.
Interviewed for SMRTV, State Secretary for Tourism Federico Pedini Amati had this to say about the importance of Una voce per San Marino for the country:
“The positive effect for the image of our country in terms of television share, […] if we had had to buy ads […] to publicize San Marino where should we have spent €3.8 million to generate that kind of international television success. This is already the first sign of the great success that is to come.”

Achille Lauro represented the microstate at Eurovision in Turin, but failed to build on Senhit’s success from Rotterdam and qualify for the Grand Final.
