Brooke sets début record on Dancing With The Stars Ireland

In December, our editor Matt broke the news that Irish Eurovision star Brooke Scullion would take part in Ireland’s version of Dancing With The Stars (DWTS) on RTÉ.

Sunday night saw the first episode of Series 6, and Brooke’s first time on the dancefloor. Brooke and her pro partner Maurizio Benenato from Italy were the 8th couple to perform. They danced a salsa to Mabel’s Let Them Know.

The pair scored a total of 25 points from the judges. This is the highest score EVER received for a first dance in the history of the Irish version of DWTS.

Unsurprisingly, the judges were euphoric after their salsa. Brian Redmond loved Brooke’s “fabulous energy the whole way through”, and gave the couple 8/10. Arthur Gourounlian said it was a “magnificent” performance and that he “couldn’t take [his] eyes off [Brooke and Maurizio]”, giving them a 9/10. While third judge Loraine Barry awarded them another 8/10.

There was no elimination on Sunday’s show. The points from show one and show two will carry over to the third episode when the first dancer will be eliminated. Given Brooke’s results so far, it is unlikely she’ll be the first to say ‘Bye, bye, fool’ to the show this season.

Interviewed immediately after the show, Brooke was still in disbelief about how well she and her dance partner had done. Speaking to James Patrice, she was able to mutter, “I’m shaking, I’m in awe.” To see the rest of the interview, skip ahead to 8m15s in the Instagram post below.
