Clintess: “I will be a complete woman”
Our Editor Matt spoke to Clintess who’s taking part in this year’s Malta Eurovision.
Hi Clintess. Congratulations on being chosen for Malta Eurovision
How did you first get into music?
I started off actually back in 2000 writing songs for a singer in the local dance scene. At that time, I was still at College.
How were you chosen for Malta Eurovision?
I believed in my song from day 1 that I heard it, in fact when my composer Dominic sent me the demo I started crying. I was at work when the Quarter Finalists got announced and he texted me on Facebook Messenger that I’ve made it. I started shaking.
What’s your song about?
“Lura Qatt”, which means Never Backwards, is about my Transitioning Life. I am a Transgender and am so happy that finally I am living the life that I’ve always wanted. It talks about when I decided to put on wigs and start wearing women’s clothes, the battles that I’ve been through with people throwing stones at, etc. But I’ve always looked to the future in the most positive way and now I am here singing my song.
What inspires your music?
I love ballads a lot as they are more dramatic. My music is inspired in general by personal issues went or going through in life. They say a picture is worth a thousand words, but a song is worth even more.
How will you stage the song?
You have to watch the semi-final 🙂 I won’t be alone on stage but it is going to be magical. My outfit will be on the same level as my Quarter Final Dress.
Are you fan of Eurovision? When did you first start watching it?
I absolutely adore Eurovision. I started watching it in 1998 when Chiara represented Malta with “The One That I Love”.
What’s your favourite Eurovision song?
There are so many. But, my all time favourite has to be “Diva” by Dana International cause I’m truly a Diva 🙂
You have your own show ‘The Real World of the Clintess’ on Youtube. Can you tell us more about it?
Yes my show “The Real World Of The Clintess” started off with Season 1 in 2020. Nowadays wrapping up Season 3 which is going to air in the second quarter of this year, and soon commencing filming Season 4. It is basically about my crazy life from one project to another, birthdays, my transitioning, behind the scenes, hanging out with friends, the ups and downs of life, relationships, etc. I love having a camera follow me in my daily life. This is a way for people to get to know me better.
What’s been your favourite song from Malta?
Once again, I have plenty. I simply adore Ira Losco’s “7th Wonder”.
Can you tell us anything about you that people may not know?
I don’t drive, actually I’m quite accident prone hehe. But never say never. I love interior design in fact I love renovating my house. I am obsessed with clothes, shoes and handbags. In fact I have created a 1 and a half story closet. Filming almost every day, I have to have a lot of options. I love to cook and I love clubbing.
What’s your favourite non Eurovision song?
“Diamonds” by Rihanna. Was very bad after a breakup but when this song came out it gave me a boost of confidence and told me to wake up and grind even more and to follow my dreams.
Where do you see yourself in five years time?
I will be a complete woman for sure. All operations would be done. Filming more seasons of my reality show. If not represented Malta yet, I will keep on trying my luck with the Malta Eurovision Song Contest. And… something personal is I truly wish to get married. Find a loving man to share all these beautiful memories with and eventually start a family.
If you could meet anyone in the world who would it be?
I would love to meet Paris Hilton. I love the glam life and I do resemble her in many ways. I am very business minded just like her and I think we can be best friends 🙂
Thanks so much for your time Clintess. Do you have any messages for your fans?
It’s been my pleasure. Being on the Eurovision stage has always been my dream and my late Father’s dream. I hope he is proud of me from up above. Thank you to all my fans who believe in me and my song and I promise to deliver an amazing performance. Thank you all once again, love Clintess X
