The fourth song of this year’s Uuden musiikin kilpailu (UMK) has been released. You can listen to the song ”Something to Lose” by Lxandra here:
Lxandra (real name Alexandra Lehti) is a Finnish singer-songwriter and former fashion blogger. In 2016, at the age of 19, Lxandra moved to Berlin to help the progress of her music career. In Berlin she made a recording deal with Vertigo, and worked with top music industry players. In 2017 she also made a recording deal with American record company Island Records. Lxandra’s first single published through a record company was ”Dig Deep”, published in 2018. Before that, in 2017, Lxandra had released two self-published singles called ”Flicker” and ”Hush Hush Baby”. ”Hush Hush Baby” ended up playing in the commercial of the German electronics chain Saturn. Lxandra has gained quite a global following as an artist since her first singles, and her music has also been playing in many American movies and tv-series. In 2021 Lxandra released her debut album ”Careful What I Dream Of”.
Lxandra comes from a creative family, since her mother is a Finnish tv-reporter and host Baba Lybeck and her father is musician Pekka Lehti. Her brother Benjamin Lehti plays guitar in Lxandra’s band. Lxandra told the Finnish newspaper Ilta-Sanomat that both of her parents have always supported her and they also gave ”thumbs up” to her UMK participation. According to Lxandra her parents however haven’t given her any special advice:
They don’t try to advice me that much. I go my own ways, in the end I do quite different things they do. Previously I even said that I don’t need advices, but less nowadays.
Lxandra told Yle she believes that it’s crucial for an artist to evoke an emotional response in people with their music:
I want to create universal music that is personal at the same time. Dark, but still full of color. I strive for emotionality and connection.
According to Yle, the idea of sending ”Something to Lose” to UMK was born from the jet lag Lxandra had after a trip to Los Angeles in April 2022. ”There had been talk of entering UMK for quite some time, but it wasn’t until just that moment that I realized this song could be the right one.”

For years Lxandra has been one of Finland’s most promising export talents, making a career for herself out in the world. Now, she brings her exquisite ballad “Something To Lose” to UMK. The song is all at once tender and personal, dramatic and epic. Lxandra is a top-notch live performer, who has touched audiences in Finland and abroad, even bringing them to tears. The song will definitely rise to new heights when performed live. Lxandra is also known as a versatile audio-visual artist, so we are very interested to see what kind of world she will build around the song.
