Here is the seventh and final song of UMK23

The seventh and final song of this year’s Uuden musiikin kilpailu (UMK) has been released. You can listen to the song ”Samaa taivasta katsotaan” by Portion Boys here:

Portion Boys is a Finnish band known for their party songs. The band was founded in 2010, according to the band ”during one legendary night in Tampere”.  Portion Boys is formed by five members: Kenraali Vahva, El Meissel, A. P. Vuori, JaloTiina and Taiteilija Nieminen. The first song of the band was called ”Pelimiehen paratiisi”, released in 2010. The big breakthrough for Portion Boys happened in 2021 with the cover version of Finnish song from 1989 called ”Vauhti kiihtyy”, which they made together with the song’s original performers, very successful Finnish duo Matti and Teppo.

Even though Portion Boys hasn’t released single album, they’ve had many hit songs, including songs like ”Kyläbaari”, ”Karjala takas” and ”Nautin elämästä”, which the band made together with former UMK runner-up Teflon Brothers. The songs of Portion Boys have been listened over 160 million times from the streaming services.

According to Yle, Portion Boys has thought about applying in UMK for several years, and now the time was right for it. The band feels they have everything in place and nothing to lose, just a lot to give.

Portion Boys tells Yle that the message behind their song ”Samaa taivasta katsotaan” is important to them: each and everyone of us matters.

”Now when there’s so much bad things going on in the world, we hope that from this song people would get a little moment of joy. We work together for a common goal and create a feeling of cohesion”, describes JaloTiina.

This is what the jury of UMK23 said about Portion Boys and their song ”Samaa taivasta katsotaan”:

”With a career spanning over a decade under its belt, Portion Boys is currently one of Finland’s hottest groups. It’s great to see the band in UMK, bringing its own, unique style to the contest. “Samaa taivasta katsotaan” celebrates Europe’s diversity in its own playful way and it represents the value of tolerance that Eurovision promotes, something we all need more of in this day and age. The song is an unforgettable earworm, positively brimming with laser drums, energy and musical hooks. The band’s incredible live energy really comes out in the song – underneath its hard-charging beat is a beautiful composition. This could be one of Finland’s most-streamed songs in 2023.”

Now that all of the songs of UMK23 have been released, it’s time to open our poll for the Finnish national selection. You can vote for your favorite to win UMK23 here:
