Listen to the songs competing at Dansk Melodi Grand Prix 2023

The Danish broadcaster, DR has revealed the 8 songs which will be competing for a chance to represent the country at Eurovision 2023.

Dansk Melodi Grand Prix 2023 will be held on 11th of February in Næstved Arena in Næstved in the Sjælland region. Tina Müller and Heino Hansen will be host the showThis will be Tina’s third time in a row that she is hosting DMGP. The winner will be selected by a public vote through two voting rounds.

The 8 artists competing are:

  • Eyjaa – “I Was Gonna Marry Him”
  • Frederick Leopold – “Stuck on You”
  • Maia Maia – “Beautiful Bullshit”
  • Mariyah Leberg – “Human”
  • Micky Skeel – “Glansbillede”
  • Nicklas Sonne – “Freedom”
  • Reiley – “Breaking my Heart”
  • Søren Torpgaard Lund – “Lige Her”

EYJAAI Was Gonna Marry Him 
Music & lyrics by: Maria Broberg, Rasmus Olsen and Thomas Buttenschøn
EYJAA is an Icelandic duo which consists out of the two sisters Sara Victoria Sverrisdottir and Brynja Mary Sverrisdottir, they released their debut song “Don’t forget about me”  in 2021. Brynja is known to Eurovision fans as she competed at the Icelandic national selection, Söngvakeppnin with Augun þín” where she ended on 4th place in semi-final 1.

Frederick Leopold – “Stuck on You”
Music & lyrics by: Frederik Jyll and Lasse Lindorff
Frederick is a singer/songwriter. His musical journey started at the age of 11 when he got a guitar and started to create music  He’s been making music. Frederick released two EPs in 2018 and 2019.

maia maia – “Beautiful Bullshit”
Music & lyrics by: Joy Deb, Maja Barløse and Niclas Lundin

Maja Barløse is a Danish musician, songwriter and producer, who works under maia maia. The musical genre she creates she describes as millennial-pop, with catchy melodies delivered with big confidence and strong will. Her debut album You Again”, under the alias Fjer, was released in the fall of 2018. It was nominated for “Danish pop release of the year” by GAFFA and gained airplay on P3. 

Mariyah Leberg –“Human”
Music & lyrics by: Chief 1, Mariyah LeBerg and Nermin Harambasic
Mariyah is a Danish singer born in a Danish-Lebanese family. On her entry, “Human”, she cooperated with Chief 1 who is the one behind winning entries in DMGP 1997, 2012, 2015 and 2022.

Micky Skeel – “Glansbillede”
Music & lyrics by: Martin Bjelke and Micky Skeel Hansen

Micky is a Danish singer, songwriter and actor. He rose to fame after having a role in several Danish movies and series. From 2010 to 2013 he was a member of boy band PULS. This won’t be his first appearance at DMGP as back in 2015 he wrote and produced Anne Gadegaard’s entry “Suitcase

Nicklas Sonne – “Freedom”
Music & lyrics by: Nicklas Sonne
 

Nicklas is a rock musician, producer and mix- mastering engineer at Sonne Studios. His guitar companion, Frederik Møller and him created Defecto in late 2010, with his guitar companion, other his projects included: Malrun, Evil Masquerade, Theory, Hank Shermann, One Machine, Waving Memories, Section A, Metallica Jam, Wasted, Omvendt Korstog and now his own self-titled project. He has opened for Metallica, Rammstein and Dream Theater.

Reiley – “Breaking my Heart”
Music & lyrics by: Reiley, Bård Bonsaksen and Sivert Hjeltnes Hagtvet

Reiley is a TikTok star from Faroe Islands. His TikTok performances lead him to the record deal with Atlantic Records and made him the most popular person in Faroe Islands. In case he wins the DMGP 2023 he will be the first person from the Danish autonomous territory at the contest.

Søren Torpgaard Lund – “Lige Her”
Music & lyrics by: Søren Torpegaard Lund, Tim Schou Nielsen, Steven McClintock, Martin Palme Skriver and Lasse Storm

Søren is a singer, actor and dancer. He finished bachelor studies of Musical Performance at Den Danske Scenekunstskole. One of the roles he had so far was Tony in West Side Story. On the song Søren worked together with Tim Schou (A Friend in London) and Martin Palme Skriver (Lighthouse X).
