Sunstroke Project tease a Eurovision return for 2023

While broadcaster Teleradio-Moldova (TRM) has remained very quiet about Moldova’s plans for Eurovision 2023, Sunstroke Project have teased their third Eurovision appearance in an Instagram post today.

The group achieved fame for representing Moldova at Eurovision 2010 with Olia Tira. While “Run Away” finished a disappointing 22nd overall, Sergey Stepanov’s saxophone performance became a meme, and he is now known worldwide as the ‘Epic Sax Guy.’

Sunstroke Project returned to Eurovision in Kyiv in 2017, and stormed to a third place finish with “Hey, Mamma!” – this remains Moldova’s best ever result at Eurovision.

In 2019, disagreements in the group led to Anton Ragoza quitting the band. The trio has continued as a duo with Sergei Yalovitsky on vocals and Epic Sax Guy (Sergey Stepanov) on saxophone (obviously).

Since then, the duo has continued to release singles, and were even featured on an episode of the Netflix series Jack Whitehall: Travels with My Father.

Do you hope their annoucement will be confirmed by TRM? Could Sunstroke Project finally bring Moldova its first Eurovision win? Let us know in the comments below or on our socials @escbubble!
