Amia: “My performance will be explosive, with a strong message, stage movement and charisma”

This Saturday Romania will find out who will represent them in Eurovision 2023 and our editor Marco had the chance to talk with Amia about her participation in Selecția Națională 2023. The winner of Selecția Națională will be selected only by the public. You can check out our interview with Amia below.

Hello Amia and thank you for taking you time for ESCBubble! First of all, how was your reaction when you heard you will be at Selecţia Naţională 2023?
Hello and thank you for this intervew. I don’t know if it’s obvious or not but I cried and screamed and cheered all day after hearing this incredible news.

What made you decide to enter Selecţia Naţională and what are your expectations from the contest?
I have wanted to participate in this contest for a long time, especially since I watch it every year and I’m also a big fan.  So this year, me and the team I’m part of, got down to business and tried to make a song that meets the Eurovision requirements. I hope that I will impress those who will watch the National Selection and they will vote for me so that I can be the one who represents Romania in Liverpool.

Your song is called “Puppet”, can you tell us about it, what’s the message behind it?
The message of the song is quite simple. The main idea is Freedom and it is also shaped around the idea of being you, being unique and different from others.

How will the staging be at Selecţia Naţională 2023? What can we expect from your performance?
I can only tell you that it will be explosive, with a strong message, stage movement and charisma.

How does it feel to compete against your friends? Deiona & JaxMan are from your same music label, does it put extra pressure or do you feel more comfortable?
This doesn’t put extra pressure on me because I would be extremely happy if one of them will be the one representing our country.  We are in the same team and I don’t consider it a competition between us. Obviously I would like to be the one representing Romania further, but I would not be less happy if it is not me, but one of them.

This year the public will choose the winner of Selecţia Naţională, is this the right decision or should they bring the jury panel in the final back again?
I don’t think it’s a wrong decision that the public will choose who goes to Liverpool.  We are all new comers in this competition and I think it is quite fair.

Do you follow Eurovision and do you have a favorite song from the contest?
As I said earlier, I have been watching Eurovision for quite a few years and for me, Salvador Sobral with the song “Amar Pelos Dois” is like a comfort to the soul.  It is absolutely fantastic what Salvador was able to do on stage that year.

And any other plans for 2023? Can we expect new music from Amia?
Obviously there will be new songs, it’s a new beginning for me.  “Puppet” is only the first of what will follow.

In the end, I want to thank you for your time and please, if you have a message for your fans and our readers here on ESCBubble?
Thank you for having me!! It was a pleasure for me answearing to your questions. Hugs to all ESCBubble fans.  I hope you enjoyed listening to my song and keep your fingers crossed for me!
