Andreea D: “I am so happy that I managed to share the Romanian traditions with the eurofans”

Romania at Eurovision and a few weeks ago we had the opportunity to talk to one of the contestants, Andreea D. Andreea teamed up with Folclor Orchestra for the song “Periniţa mea” and she told us what to expect from her in Selecția Națională, you can check the interview down below. The national final will take place on 11 February and the winner will be selected only by the public.

Hello Aledaida Andreea D and thank you for taking you time for ESCBubble! First of all, how was your reaction when you heard you will be at Selecţia Naţională 2023?
Hello! I’m glad we can talk. When I found out we will be in Selectia Nationala, I actually screamed with joy while reading the email. I scared everyone in the house that morning because they didn’t understand what happened.

What made you decide to enter Selecţia Naţională and what are your expectations from the contest?
I’ve always liked the competitive aspect of Eurovision, especially since I’ve already been involved in this process as a supporter when my husband won the national selection alongside Voltaj with the song ‘De la capat’ (2015). As a result, I’ve thought that it would be wonderful if we could bring the Romanian traditional customs into the worldwide spotlight. Like any other artist, I have high expectations from this competition but in the end it’s the public that decides what it likes and wants to support further.

Your song is called “Periniţa mea”, can you tell us what’s the song about and message behind it?
Being born in Ploiești, I was very familiar with the local traditional folklore so I wanted to reorchestrate a folkloric dance from the Batrani county, called ‘Perinița’. This dance is currently known and performed throughout all regions of Romania but I was glad to learn that it has international recognition as well. I am so happy that I managed to share the Romanian traditions with the eurofans and I hope that we will all dance to ‘Perinița’ in Liverpool. After all, the song’s message is about love, unity, good vibes and peace.

How will the staging be at Selecţia Naţională 2023? What can we expect from your performance?
I think our moment, like the song, will be full of energy, positivity and a little bit of tradition. I don’t want to reveal more, because it wouldn’t be a surprise anymore.

Which of the other contestants are you excited to see on Selecţia Naţională this year? And who do you consider to be your biggest competitor?
I can’t wait to see all of them in the final, I like them all, they are super different and I’m happy to have the opportunity through you to wish them all good luck, because I know everyone works very hard for this show.

This year the public will choose the winner of Selecţia Naţională, is this the right decision or should they bring the jury panel in the final back again?
I think it’s really great for the public to vote for their favorites, because in the end it’s a TV show. I believe that this question needs to be thoroughly researched and I would not be able to answer it myself.

Do you follow Eurovision and do you have a favorite song from the contest?
Yes, I do watch the Eurovision, so far for this year I like the Ukrainian entry TVORCHI – Heart of Steel.

And any other plans for 2023? Can we expect new music from Andreea D Folclor Orchestra?
I have many songs in progress with this project but I’m taking it step by step, now we’re focusing on the Eurovision national final.

In the end, I want to thank you for your time and please, if you have a message for your fans and our readers here on ESCBubble?
Thank you for your interest, and for the fans and readers I want to tell them that I can’t wait to perform “Perinita mea”, I’m waiting them to dance and to feel, with me, a part of Romanian tradition that’s about love, unity and it they like it they can vote 35, my number in national final.
