This Saturday Romania will find out who will represent them in Eurovision 2023 and our editor Marco had the chance to talk with Deiona about her participation in Selecția Națională 2023. The winner of Selecția Națională will be selected only by the public. You can check out our interview with Deiona below.

Hello Deiona and thank you for taking you time for ESCBubble! First of all, how was your reaction when you heard you will be at Selecţia Naţională 2023?
Hi ESCBubble and thank you for having me. When I read the email they sent us, I was definitely screaming and crying, happy to take part in such a big project.

What made you decide to enter Selecţia Naţională and what are your expectations from the contest?
I’ve always wanted to participate in ESC but it wasn’t the time then because I was too young. But this year, my team and I deeply dived into work to create not one, but three songs down to Eurovision expectations. Now, we can only hope people will love our songs and vote for one of us to represent Romania in Liverpool.

Your song is called “Call on me”can you tell us about it, what’s the message behind it?
“Call on me” is a song about pure and sincere love and the message behind it states that “I will be there for you, anytime, anywhere, so, you can call on me”.

How will the staging be at Selecţia Naţională 2023? What can we expect from your performance?
By now, I can only tell you there will be lots of emotion, love and feelings. I’m working so hard for you to feel the sweet message of the song.

How does it feel to compete against your friends? Amia & JaxMan are from your same music label, does it put extra pressure or do you feel more comfortable?
Competeing against my friends it’s not a hard thing at all. We’re supporting each other and we’re happy for each other’s success.

This year the public will choose the winner of Selecţia Naţională, is this the right decision or should they bring the jury panel in the final back again?
The public choosing the winner of our national selection is a very good idea, knowing that they have to choose a memorable and catchy song. It’s a fair decision so that everyone can have equal chances.

Do you follow Eurovision and do you have a favorite song from the contest?
I’ve been following Eurovision since I was a little girl and every year I have a new favorite, but my heart truly belongs to “Fuego”, Eleni Foureira’s 2018 song. I love the feminine dance and the fresh vibe of the song.

And any other plans for 2023? Can we expect new music from Deiona?
I have very big plans for 2023. Even though Deiona is quite young, there will be many surprises as she is determined to conquer your hearts. I promise, you won’t be disappointed.
