‘Due vite’ certified gold in Italy, doubts remain about Eurovision
The winning song of Sanremo 2023 has been certified gold in Italy for selling over 50,000 copies!
Marco Mengoni‘s success doesn’t stop there. His song ‘Due vite’ (Two lives) has just surpassed 20 million views on YouTube and has been streamed over 17.4 million times on Spotify!
Comments made by Marco after winning Sanremo seemed to indicate he may choose a new song for Eurovision in Liverpool, however when Eurovision added the song to its YouTube channel this week (see below), those rumours seemed to die down. That was until an interview last night on Italian TV news where he was asked about whether or not he was taking ‘Due vite’ to Liverpool. He replied:
“I think so, even if the whole song for Eurovision is a bit open and we still have some time. I had written some things for the album, however now Due vite has the right of first refusal, but my team and I are open to anything. However, we are going to represent Italy in Europe, at this moment doing Eurovision is important because music is unity and will unite all of Europe.”
By time, Marco is referring to the deadline each participating country has to submit its song to the Eurovision Reference Group at the EBU. This date varies slightly year to year, but is generally on or around mid-March.
