Greece considering a new national final for Eurovision 2024

While Greece has not yet revealed its song for Eurovision 2023, Greek broadcaster ERT is already making plans for Eurovision 2024!

Greece last held a true national final in 2015, and has opted for internal selections since 2016. However that streak may be coming to an end, as according to Enicos, ERT is studying various national finals used across Europe to find the best show concept to pick the Greek act for Eurovision 2024.

The goal is to get the wider Greek audience involved in the process, and this will be done through televoting. Sources hint that this may become a multi-show national final, and not a one show and done concept. According to information from Reallife, at this point five or six shows are being considered.

Just how unprecedented is this for Greece?

  • Last televised show: 2017 – Demy chose her song during a live show
  • Last televised final: 2015 – ‘Ellinikós Telikós’ held its final selection show, choosing Maria Elena Kyriakou’s “One Last Breath”
  • Last multi-show national final: 2004 – ‘Eurostar’ ended with Sakis Rouvas crowned champion
