Festival di Sanremo is a legendary Italian music festival, which was held for the first time in 1951. The winner of Sanremo is offered the chance to represent their country in Eurovision, and often this chance is pounced. Most recent time the winner of Sanremo hasn’t represented Italy in Eurovision was in 2016, when Italy was represented by Sanremo’s runner-up Francesca Michielin instead of the winner Stadio.
