The Splitters: “Since we are a rock band, we will stick to our instruments and hope to draw as much attention to the song”
This Saturday Croatia will find out who will represent them in Eurovision 2023 and our editor Marco had the chance to talk with The Splitters about their participation in Dora 2023. The winner of Dora 2023 will be selected 50% by the jury and 50 by the public. You can check out our interview with The Splitters below.
Hello The Splitters and thank you for taking your time for ESCBubble! First of all, how was your reaction when you heard you will be at Dora 2023?
First of all, thank you for your interest in our engagement at Dora 2023. Honestly, we were very excited when we found out that this year we will have the opportunity to present our work at Dora 2023 and present ourselves not only to the Croatian audience but also to the world audience, given that the Eurosong is one of the leading events in the world of music. Also, every performance where we can establish contact with the audience is a great opportunity for young bands like us.
What made you decide to enter Dora and what were your expectations from the contest?
We applied to Dora because we believe that such competitions are a good opportunity for all musicians to show their work and musical expression, regardless of the genre they represent. Then, by performing at the Eurovision Song Contest, musicians can reach an audience beyond the border of the country in which they live and become world famous, as was the case with the band ABBA. And for us as a band, an additional motivation is that this year the Eurosong is being held in Liverpool, and we all know that it is the hometown of one of the greatest bands ever – The Beatles.
The group was made of two pairs of brothers, I want to know who’s idea was forming a group?
Well at first Petar Senta started to play electric guitar and write songs, while still in highschool, which always attracted Josip Senta to tag along. After some time the band was created, we went from small roster changes and we ended up with two pairs of brothers. An accident in reality, but makes a great conversation piece.
Can you guys tell us who came up with the band name and what’s the story behind it?
Since we started to write songs in English at first we wanted to have a recognizable name. In the end we derived it from our city the Split l, with some inspiration from our great influence – the Beatles.
Your song is called “Lost and Found”, what can you tell us about it, what’s the message behind it?
“Lost and Found” was written by Branimir Mihaljevic and Neven Kolaric. We believe it has strong Eurovision vibes, and also hope that the audience will find us interesting among other contestants.
How will the staging be at Dora 2023? What can we expect from your performance?
Since we are a rock band, we will stick to our instruments and hope to draw as much attention to the song. We also have a few surprises that we don’t want to discover yet. We can only say that it would be nice if the audience responds with their smartphone lights to make an impressive setting.
Which of the other contestants are you excited to see on Dora this year? And who do you consider to be your biggest competitor?
We are very excited to see Let 3’s performance, since we belong to a similar genre. As far as the biggest competitor – all of the modern pop singers.
Do you follow Eurovision and do you have a favorite song from the contest?
We usually watch Eurovision each year, but our favorite songs are Zitti e Buoni by Måneskin and the classic Waterloo by ABBA.
Any other plans for 2023? Can we expect new music from The Splitters?
In 2023 we will release our third studio album, with hope that this competition would bring us more followers. New music is always in the making so aside from the album we hope to release a few more singles.
In the end, I want to thank you for your time and please, if you have a message for your fans and our readers here on ESCBubble?
Thank you as well! Our best message is our music, so stay tuned and follow us. Thank you!
