Victor Crone: “Eurovision has some kind of addiction to it”

Melodifestivalen 2023 has reached its hot phase and we are going to know the full line-up of the grand final by tomorrow night, when the semi-final will take place in Örnsköldsvik. One of the eight acts competing for a desired place in the final is Victor Crone with “Diamonds”.

Victor Crone is a Swedish singer-songwriter who won Eesti Laul 2019 with the song “Storm”. He therefore got to represent Estonia in the Eurovision Song Contest 2019 in Tel Aviv, where he finished in 20th place. He previously participated in Melodifestivalen 2015, where he lost the Andra Chansen round to Samir & Viktor but successfully returned in 2020. He directly qualified to the final with the song “Troubled Waters” and finished in 9th place.

This year, Victor is competing with the song “Diamonds” and finished in 3rd place of Deltävling 1, which made him advance to this Saturday’s semi-final. We got the chance to catch up with Victor in Gothenburg and asked him a few burning questions:

Hi Victor and thank you so much for giving us a quick interview!

You are of course well known in the Eurovision fandom for representing Estonia in 2019, so why would you like to represent your home country now?

Well first of all, representing Estonia was amazing! It was the beginning of my full time music career and I am so very grateful that I got this opportunity. Eurovision has some kind of an addiction to it, so I would love to do it for Sweden now.

Why do you think are so many artists, including yourself, returning to Melodifestivalen frequently?

It’s a good production and there are so many professionals here. You get to present your number and work on it for months and it’s such a good atmosphere. Everyone is happy and even though it’s a contest, it feels so welcoming.

Where do you see yourself among all the other acts?

Super hard to say, I didn’t even hear all the songs until the dress rehearsal, because we are all so busy with press appointments and rehearsals. I only heard the recaps before, so I was really impressed by seeing all the full performances today.

Who do you consider your biggest competition?

We had so many great acts in the first Heat alone, like Elov & Beny who had so much energy or Tone Sekelius, who was amazing. But I think it’s Jon Henrik, Arc North and Adam Woods with Where You Are (Sávečan) because it’s such a big number and they have the intriguing joiking part. I really like how they bring EDM together with traditional sounds.

How did you feel during the voting of Deltävling 1?

It was a very good feeling, when I got the first 12 points of the night. And then I think I got every other 10, except for one 8, so it was pretty good 😊

Were you pleased with the result?

Yes, I’m super happy to get to do this again. The performance in Gothenburg felt amazing, so I am really excited to get a second opportunity.

How do you feel about being in the Semi-Final?

I’ve never been in the Semi-Final before, so it’s going to be a new experience for me and I’m looking forward to it 😊

How did you spend your time in between Heat 1 and the Semi-Final?

I celebrated first of all. And then I got to stay one extra day in Gothenburg, because I have family there. Otherwise, I just tried to stay healthy and workout.

Thank you so much for taking the time to answer our questions! Good luck for the Semi-Final!
