Victor Gulick: ‘I just want more people to hear my songs, to share my creativity with them’

This Saturday Moldova will find out its representative for Eurovision 2023 and we had the opportunity to chat with Victor Gulick a few weeks ago after his audition for Etapa Națională, you can check out our interview below.

Hello Victor Gulick and thank you for taking your time for ESCBubble! First of all, how was your reaction when you heard you will be at ”Etapa Nationala Final”?
Hi. I’m very glad to participate in your interview! When I found out about me getting to the finals of this competition, I was quite pleasantly surprised due to the fact that I personally was not completely satisfied with my performance in the stage of the selection. So, reaching the finals was news to me.

What made you decide to enter Etapa Nationala 2023 and what are your expectations from the contest?
Actually, I’ve never set the goal for myself to participate in any kind of competitions, and Eurovision was not an exception. But, sometimes you need to listen to your comrades’ advice. When I showed my song to my friends on the radio, it seemed to them that this song deserves a chance, so they offered me to apply for the competition. When the time came – I did it! And here I am in the final! What are my expectations? Most likely it’s not even about a victory. I just want more people to hear my songs, to share my creativity with them! At the moment, one of the tools is to be heard not just in my own country.

Your song is called “Let’s Dance”, can you tell us what’s the song about and message behind it?
“Let’s Dance” is a song co-written with my old friend, Serj Lututovici. Initially, the idea was mine. In a nutshell, this song’s main message is that we should always be supportive and near our loved ones, regardless of all bad things happening to them. And of course, it’s all about love. Yes, it’s banal, but “love theme” will never cease to be relevant.

How will the staging be at Etapa Nationala 2023? What can we expect from your performance?
Speaking of “Let’s Dance”, there will be dancing for sure. But the dancing number is still in progress, and at the moment, I don’t even know how it will look in the end. I think, in a week, I’ll see what my team came up with.

Which of the other contestants are you excited to see on Etapa Nationala this year? And who do you consider to be your biggest competitor?
I can tell that I admire such contestants as: SunStroke Project and Pasha Parfeny. I really like the OL song. But I personally do not regard any of them as my competitors, since I’m fairly new to this field, and I’m just pleased to be with such artists on the same stage.

Last year, Moldova chose internal, but now they’re back to the typical national final. If you could change some things in the national final, about the rules or the selection process, what would it be and why?
Since Eurovision is something completely new for me, it’s difficult for me to answer this question. I think I’ll be able to answer by trying myself at this contest at least one more time.

Do you follow Eurovision and if so, do you have a favorite song from the contest?
Frankly speaking, I hadn’t followed every competition up to this moment. Although, of course, there are songs of former participants that I like, e.g, “Zitti E Buoni” by Maneskin, “My Number One” by Helena Paparizou, and
from my homeland it’s Sunstroke Project – “Run Away” feat. Olia Tira.

Any other plans for 2023? Can we expect new music from Victor Gulick?
I’m planning to release my music and perform as much as possible!

In the end, I want to thank you for your time and please, if you have a message for your fans and our readers here on ESCBubble?
I want to thank you for this great opportunity to tell about myself and my creativity for an even larger audience. And I want to wish everyone peace, love, and as many positive emotions as possible!
