Spain opens call for artists for Junior Eurovision 2023

RTVE has opened submissions for their national selection process for the Junior Eurovision Song Contest 2023. The broadcaster will follow the same format that led them to 6th place in the last year’s competition, which was made up of internal auditions and the selection of the song by the broadcaster.

Solo singers and groups between 9 and 14 years can now apply by filling out the form available on the official website of RTVE no later than June 26th. The candidates must also send parental consent and two videos to showcase their performing abilities.

Once the submissions period is over, the broadcaster with shortlist some finalists that will be called to perform live in casting, which will likely take place in early July at RTVE headquarters. The winner/s will go on to represent Spain at Junior Eurovision in Nice on November 26th with a song selected by the broadcaster. The chosen performer/s will record the song and video clip in September to release them no later than October 16th.

Change of rules for Junior Eurovision

This open call for artists from the Spanish broadcaster has revealed some changes in the rules of the Junior Eurovision Song Contest. As stated by RTVE:

The EBU has introduced some changes in the rules of Junior Eurovision 2023. It’s been specified that the performances on stage must be done live. Moreover, the use of any types of audio processors for pitch corections and segments of videoclips won’t be allowed during the performances on stage. The official videoclips will have to be authorized for their use on the official online voting platform.

The organisation highlights the protection of minors. According to the rules of the contest, each participating broadcaster pledges to commit to EBU’s policy regarding the safeguard of expectations and guidelines when working with kids and young contestants. The child policy will be published along with the rules of Junior Eurovision at a later date.

Spain has achieved very successful results at Junior Eurovision except for 2021. Last year, Carlos Higes performed “Señorita” in Yerevan coming 6th right behind the UK.
