Melodifestivalen has its first four artists … probably

Swedish periodical Aftonbladet is reporting that its sources have nailed down the first four artists set to appear at Melodifestivalen 2024 – Sweden’s national final to pick its Eurovision 2024 entry!

While Aftonbladet’s sources come from the music industry and those working behind the scenes at broadcaster SVT, they remind us that it is still early days, and nothing has been made offiical yet.

Dotter

A new mum, Dotter is apparently back for her fourth Mello appearance (after 2018, 2020, and 2021). While Dotter has been releasing music in Swedish lately, a source close to Aftonbladet hints at an English song for Melodifestivalen, because in modern times, “if you want to win, you have to compete with a song in English.” Dotter’s best result came in 2020 when her song Bulletproof lost by 1 point to The Mamas. She also participated at Melodifestivalen in 2017 as a writer of A Million Years and again in 2019 for Victorious.

Liamoo

Also back for a fourth appearance is Liamoo (after 2018, 2019, and 2022). His best result came in 2019 when he placed 3rd with the song Hold You – a duet with Hanna Ferm.

Smash Into Pieces

After a strong 3rd place showing at Melfest in 2023 with Six Feet Under, Chris, Benjamin, Per, and the Apocalypse DJ are a ‘yes’ for 2024. Six Feet Under currently has over 19 million streams on Spotify.

Lasse Stefanz

Sweden’s biggest dance band is back to Melodifestivalen after a 13 year hiatus. Lasse Stefanz last competed in 2011 with En blick och nänting händer, which failed to make it past the Second Chance Round that year. No word yet on the song or what language it will be performed in.

Broadcaster SVT is expected to announce the official list of 2024’s thirty artists in late November or early December. Then things get serious in the lead-up to Saturday 3th February for Heat 1 of the competition in Malmö.
