Söngvakeppnin 2024 dates announced

Excitement for next year’s contest continues to ramp up, with Iceland now joining the growing list of countries who have recently confirmed details about their 2024 song selection processes. Today, they have announced the dates of national selection Söngvakeppnin, which are:

  • Semi Final 1 – 17th February 2024
  • Semi Final 2 – 24th February 2024
  • Grand Final – 2nd March 2024

As per usual, 10 songs will compete in the contest. These will be revealed on Saturday, 27th January 2024.

5 acts will perform in each semi final, with 2 acts progressing from both. It is expected that a 5th “wild card” act will join them in the grand final, as has been the case recently, although this is yet to be announced officially.

This year the semi finals will take place in Fossaleyni’s Truenorth Studio, and the grand final will return to Laugardalshöllin. The artist directors this year will be Högni Egilsson, Selma Björnsdóttir, Samúel Bjarki Pétursson and Gunnar Páll Ólafsson.

A slightly smaller total of 118 songs were submitted this year. We look forward to hearing the 10 selected acts!
