Erica Cody is the first Finalist of Ireland’s "Eurosong"

As we all know, Ireland’s RTÉ is once again hosting a national selection in order to find their entry for Eurovision. A total of six finalists have been selected to compete in this year’s “Eurosong” special of “The Late Late Show” on the 26th of January. Earlier today, the first finalist was announced, and it’s Erica Cody with “Love Me Like I Do”.

In an interview for the Ray D’Arcy Show, Erica Cody stated that the song was not written for Eurovision, they had written it in a songwriting camp as her next single, and together with her team, she entered it to the national selection. She added that she was approached a couple of years ago, but she felt it wasn’t the right time for it – this year with “Love Me Like I Do” she felt it’s the right song at the right time. Talking about the song, Erica stated:

The song has never meant more to me than it does right now. It really helped me get through one of the most challenging times in my life while navigating a breakup.

It’s the ultimate feel good self-love anthem. The meaning is in the song title “Love Me Like I Do” – you really are your own best friend, the one who has to go to sleep with your decisions and thoughts at night so no one can make decisions and love you more than YOU can.

Erica co-wrote “Love Me Like I Do” together with Ruthanne Aimee and Richey McCourt, who signs the song as its producer as well. Give this song a listen right here:

The second of the six finalists is going to be revealed tomorrow, so stay tuned.
