Džordži:”I didn’t even know I was going to take part in the competition”

The young singer-songwriter Đorđe Ćulafić, better known as Džordži, gained popularity among Serbian audience after participating in the music competition “IDJ Show”. He was also a model in the past and now he takes part at Serbian national selection for Eurovision, “Pesma za Evroviziju” with the song “Luna Park”.

Hello Džordži, first of all I would like to congratulate you for being selected for Pesma za Evroviziju 2024. How does that feel and what made you decide to take part at the show?
First of all, it is a true pleasure to compete with other amazing artists and have a chance to represent my country at the Eurovision song contest.

How did you get involved with singing? Can you tell us more about your musical beginnings?
Ever since I could talk, and here I am, still unsuccessfully doing it! Haha! When I was growing up I was always that boy with a guitar, carrying it everywhere and singing.

You rose to fame among the Serbian audience after taking part at “IDJshow” 2022 how was that experience for you and in which way do think it could help you win PzE 2024?
I enjoyed doing IDJ show, as I was surrounded by amazing people and artists who stayed my close friends. Honestly, every experience on stage is important for an artist especially when you’re lucky and work with the best music producers of your country. Additionally, the experience on IDJ also shaped me as an artist and you’ll definitely get the chance to see everything we have been working on. 4.

How did the song “Luna park” come to life and what does it mean to you?
It is actually a funny story.. I sang that song for a friend couple of years ago, and I sang it in a completely different genre. And then, a year after, I got a phone call from my team and they were like “You are singing this song on PZE”, and I didn’t even know I was going to take part in the competition!

Where do you find inspiration for the music you create? Do you have any role models?
I listen to everything and I find inspiration in everyday life.

Before becoming a musician you were a model, what did the career of a model teach you and how was that experience for you?
Yes, I worked as a model and yes it definitely helped me in a way, for example when we’re shooting music videos.

What do you do when you are not singing and performing? Any hobbies?
I enjoy playing instruments, for example I play guitar, bass, drums and many more!

Do you watch Eurovision regularly, if so would you like to share a memory which you have of it or a favourite song from the contest?
I love Eurovision, to me this should be a fun competition!

If you had a chance to make a duet with any
Pesma za Evroviziju /Eurovision participant, who would you choose?
It is hard for me to chose only one artist because everyone is really talented and cool. I will definitely be open to collaborate with some of PZE contestants in the future.

What are your plans after Pesma za Evroviziju 2024?
I actually have no idea! Haha! I’ll continue making music because this is who I am, and then I’ll decide spontaneously.

Thank you so much for your time Džordži. We wish you the best of luck at the Pesma za Evroviziju.

The second semi-final of the show is set to take place on 29th of February with the start at 21.00 CET at RTS. You can listen to “Luna Park” by Džordži below:
