Spain to host Junior Eurovision 2024

The EBU has just announced the Junior Eurovision Song 2024 will be held in Spain. The country finished in second place at last year’s edition which took place in Nice. France won the competition on home soil but has decided to hand the contest over to their neighbours as they’ve already organised the competition twice in the last 3 years.

Twenty years after their Junior Eurovision Song Contest win, we’re thrilled to finally bring the Contest to Spain. We’re grateful to RTVE for accepting to host the 22nd edition of the competition which gives young artists from across Europe an incredible platform to showcase their talent. We’re very much looking forward to the fiesta that awaits in Spain later this year!’, Martin Österdahl, the Junior Eurovision Executive Supervisor said.

Ana María Bordás, Head of the Spanish delegation, commented on the choice:

RTVE welcomes with great enthusiasm EBU’s invitation for the Junior Eurovision Song Contest 2024 to be held in Spain.

For RTVE, hosting the next JESC is another step in the effort that the public broadcaster has made in recent years to promote Eurovision in Spain and give more relevance to our music.

From now on, RTVE will work closely with the EBU and the Steering Group to organize the best JESC possible. We will employ our best creative, technical and human resources to offer a festival designed for young artists in a festive and safe environment.

We are sure that the Spanish public will also receive this announcement with great enthusiasm and will welcome the Eurovision community with open arms.’

It will be the first time in more than 50 years that Spain will be hosting a Eurovision event. The country made its debut in the contest for kids in the first-ever edition held in 2003 and won a year later when María Isabel performed “Antes Muerta Que Sencilla”. However, they didn’t host the competition in 2005 as, by then, the winner didn’t get the right to organise the contest the following year. Spain has achieved top results at Junior Eurovision over the years, finishing in the top 3 most editions.

France won Junior Eurovision 2023 with Zoé Clauzure singing “Coeur”, with Spain being the runner-up with Sandra Valero and her song “Loviu”.
