Eurovision 2025 host city and dates announced
After months of suspense and build up, Basel has finally been revealed as Switzerland’s host city of the Eurovision Song Contest 2025. The dates of this year’s three live shows have also been announced.
- Semi Final 1 – May 13th 2025
- Semi Final 2 – May 15th 2025
- Grand Final – May 17th 2025
The announcement was made this morning through a video uploaded to the official Eurovision Song Contest YouTube channel, in which we see glimpses of the city and its inhabitants. This host city choice follows a recent trend of winning countries tending to opt for a location away from the capital, allowing a perhaps less recognised region of the country to have its moment in the spotlight.
Located by the river Rhine, Basel is considered to be the cultural capital of the country, with an array of museums and nature spots on offer for fans to visit. The shows will take place in Basel’s St. Jakobshalle arena, which has a maximum capacity 12,400 people, although this will need to be reduced to allow room for the production equipment. With less than 2 days to go until the start of September, we expect it won’t be long until the first artists and songs of Eurovision’s next edition are revealed.
