ESCBubble team’s Spotify Wrapped – who made our top 5?

It’s the time of the year where Spotify gives us a few story-worthy recaps on what each of listened to the most throughout the current year. If you don’t have Spotify, don’t worry – iTunes, YouTube, and many other platforms have their own version of “wrapping” up your top choices. Our team at ESCBubble decided to share our own top Eurovision-related picks, music and artists connected to Eurovision that we listened to the most from this year’s Contest, but also other former artists who still made our top five lists.

Our top Eurovision 2024 songs

From the 37 songs that competed in this year’s Eurovision Song Contest in Malmö, seven songs made our Spotify Wrapped Top Five. And only two of those seven topped one of our charts – the song which our very own Sophie listened to the most in 2024 was the actual Eurovision winning song from this year – “The Code” by Nemo.

Two other songs featured in at least two of our team members’ top five… Firstly one of the biggest fan favorites of the year, and the song that became a massive hit amongst not just Spain and Spanish speaking countries, but across Europe as well – it’s the winners of Benidorm Fest who unfortunately only ended 22nd in Malmö – Nebulossa with “Zorra”.

Apart from Nebulossa, there is one other act that two of our team members couldn’t stop listening to before, and after the Contest as well – it was also our very own Nina’s most listened to song of the year. They also didn’t make it to the Top Ten in Malmö (as they came 19th), but they definitely brought the fun and joy to the stage – it’s Finland’s Windows95Man with “No Rules!”

The remaining four acts only ended up in the top five of one of our team members’ Spotify Wrapped Top 5 songs of the year… From the lowest (obviously 5th) to the highest scoring (2nd), they were: France’s Slimane with his “Mon amour” who sung his way to the fourth place in the Grand Final; Denmark’s Saba with “Sand” – who failed to qualify for the Grand Final in this year’s Contest; Greece’s Marina Satti who finished just outside of the Top 10 in Malmö with “Zari”; and Slovenia’s Raiven, who’s “Veronika” was just a few listens away from being the most listened to song of one of our team members. Raiven brought Slovenia to the Grand Final for the second year in a row, where unfortunately she only finished in 23rd place.

National final songs from 2024

More songs from national selections than from Eurovision itself made our team members’ top fives (but obviously, there was a much bigger pool of songs as well). 10 songs made it to our Spotify Wrapped top five, and two of these 10 were some of our team members’ number one songs – and both of those songs competed in Italy’s Sanremo.

First of, we have Ervin’s number one most listened to song of the year, which also ended up in Joe B’s top five. Whilst it’s anthemic melody connected with the viewers, the juries were less impressed, so Dargen D’Amico with “Onda Alta” only finished 20th overall in the Grand Final.

Secondly, we have our second song from Sanremo, which only Joe B has in his Spotify Wrapped Top Five – but he has it at the top spot! BigMama’s big debut in Sanremo with “La rabbia non ti basta” only finished in 22nd place in the Grand Final, but we are sure that she will be back again in this competition with yet another amazing entry.

There are another two Sanremo entries that made our team members’ top five, but didn’t take the top spot – the winner of the televote who overall finished second in the Contest – Geolier with his “I p’me, tu p’ te”; and of course, Mahmood’s first Sanremo entry that failed to reach the Super Final round, but became a hit across Europe nevertheless – “Tuta Gold”.

The other national final entries also finishing quite high in our team’s Spotify Wrapped top 5 most listened to songs include the song that failed to reach the Final of Festivali i Kenges in Albania (but regardless remained eligible for Eurovision) – Luan Durmishi’s “Përsëritja”. We can add two national final runner-ups to this list as well – the first one coming from Sweden – the anthemic “Que Sera” by Medina; as well as the runner-up in Eesti Laul – the “always the bride’s made never the bride” Ollie with “My Friend”. Another song that made this list were the come-back act in this year’s UMK, who finished in fourth place this time – Cyan Kicks with their entry “Dancing With Demons”. Two third-placed entries from this year’s national selections complete our list – first of it’s the song that finished in third place in Benidorm Fest – “Sé quién soy” by the powerhouse that is Angy Fernández; then we have the song that tied for third place in the Serbian national selection – the song that will make you move whether you like it or not, the extremely catchy “Najbolja” by the amazing Zejna.

Top 5 artists

A total of 10 Eurovision artists made our team’s top five most listened to artists’ list – three from this year’s Contest, and seven former entrants. All those three artists ended up with their songs in our top Fives as well – Nebulossa, Raiven, and Windows95Man. Out of the remaining seven acts, two of them are Eurovision winners.

Some classics are simply here to stay. They took a 44 year long break before coming back for a one-off album, they remain one of the best-selling music acts in the history of popular music, and they are the second-most listened to artist in Nina’s list – Sweden’s ABBA!

The second Eurovision winner to make our team members’ Top 5 Artists list is actually a two time winner. First she won the Contest in Baku in 2012, and she came back last year to win it again in Liverpool – it’s yet another Swedish winner, Loreen!

We have another Swede in our list, however he didn’t take the Top Spot in the Contest, he “only” finished in 7th place. He made a return this year, but as part of the interval act – it’s of course, Benjamin Ingrosso! Another act that was in this year’s Contest as part of the Interval act ended up in one of our team members’ top five artists – it’s Finland’s Käärijä, who’s song “Cha Cha Cha” won the televote last year in Liverpool by an absolute landslide, but that still wasn’t enough to take the crown over from Loreen.

Two two-time Eurovision entrants also made our list. The first one is the only male artist to represent Estonia twice in Eurovision – first in 1998 when he finished in 12th place with “Mere lapsed”, and then again in 2017 when he sung “Verona” together with Laura, and this time failed to make it to the Grand Final – it’s Koit Toome! Apart from him, we have an Italian artist who competed in Eurovision twice, and ended up in the top 10 both times – first a second place in 2019 with “Soldi”, and then a 6th place with “Brividi” on home soil in Turin together with Blanco. We already mentioned him previously as his song from this year’s Sanremo also made our “Top 5 songs” list – Mahmood!

And finally, we have the underrated German band – Lord Of The Lost, who ended up being Edita’s most listened to artist in 2024. And not just that, her top 5 most listened to songs were all by this amazing band! Their Eurovision entry “Blood And Glitter” failed to impress the Eurovision public on the night of the Final in Liverpool, and unfortunately finished in last place, but would we love to see them back again in Eurovision, coming for revenge? Hell yeah!
