VRT announces two preview shows for Belgian Eurosong 2025
In the last few days, North Belgian broadcaster VRT has announced more details on this year’s national final. Before the live final, which will take place at EMG Studio 7 in Vilvoorde, just north of Brussels, on the 1st February 2025, there will be two preview ‘showcase’ shows that will air on VRT1 the previous two Saturdays, with half the acts presenting their song in each show. They’ll also perform a cover of a previous Eurovision song.
The acts will be split between the two showcase shows accordingly:
Showcase 1 (18th January)
- Grace
- Leez
- Le Manou
- Lenn
Showcase 2 (25th January)
- Jelle van Dael
- Mentissa
- Stefanie Callebaut
- Red Sebastian
All eight acts will perform their songs for the country’s ticket to Basel the following Saturday, with the vote being decided by a yet-to-be-announced combination of jury and public voting.
A similar format was used by the broadcaster, who share the right to select the nation’s Eurovision act on a biannual basis with French-speaking broadcaster RTBF, in 2023, when Gustaph won with his 90s House-inspired Because Of You, eventually finishing 7th in the final in Liverpool. 2024 act Mustii failed to qualify in Malmö for RTBF with Before The Party’s Over.
Six months out from the final, Belgium currently sit first in the odds to win Eurovision overall, possibly due to the candidacy of Mentissa, who shot to fame after coming third in The Voice France in 2021, and has since become a coach on the Walloon edition of the show. Her songs Et Bam and Mamma Mia charted strongly in both countries, and have brought tens of millions of streams and YouTube views.
