Fredrik Lundman: ‘I guess you can say I compete in the world championship of sauna’

Few weeks ago our own Edita heard from Swedish singer Fredrik Lundman, who’ll be hoping to represent Sweden at Eurovision this year with his song ”The Heart of a Swedish Cowboy”. Among other things, he told us about his hobbies such as sauna and shared his experiences and memories about Eurovision. See below for a full conversation.

Firstly, for our readers who don’t know you, how would you introduce yourself and your music?
I’m a Country Music Artist from North of Sweden.
This is your first time in Melodifestivalen, how do you feel about it? Who encouraged you to participate?

I encouraged myself to take part at Melodifestivalen. Maja Francis, Thomas G:son and Erik Bernholm wrote a song that I fell in love with.

How The Heart of a Swedish Cowboy came to life? What is the meaning of this song?
The song is about the spirit of moving on in life, when you fall off the back of the horse, no matter how many times you do it, you get yourself together and jump back up in the saddle again and move forward.
Winning Melodifestivalen would mean you can represent Sweden in Eurovision. What would it mean to you if it happened? And what would be your message to Europe?
It would mean everything, because it’s my mission to take country music out in Sweden, Europe and the States. Just standing there is a huge statement of how the ”little guy that everybody bullied” can grow up and become the big guy one day if you just keep fighting and never lose faith in why you do it and where you are going…
What is your favourite Swedish entry in Eurovision? And what is your all time favourite Eurovision song?
I would say Roger Pontare – When Spirits are Calling My Name – I had the honor of sharing the stage in Sweden with him performing his Eurovision song in Swedish ”När Vindarna Viskar Mitt Namn”. But of course I love ABBA too, they are one of my biggest musical influences. Growing up as a kid I remember that it was so cool when Lordi won the whole thing in 2006, I also like Måneskin, they’re really cool.
What do you do when you aren’t performing? Any hobbies?
When I’m not performing I hangout at the ranch, takin’ care of and ridin’ horses with my friend Mike. I also love snowmobilin’ in the mountains on my sparetime. Sauna is also a big deal for me, I go to sauna competitions with my friend Jonas Jaako, he’s the Swedish sauna champion and my mentor – so I guess you can say I compete in the world championship of sauna with my friend from the North.
Thank you for your time.
Thank you.

Fredrik will perform and we will hear his song for the first time at Melodifestivalen on the 8th of February.
