Moldova withdraws from Eurovision 2025

Moldova’s national broadcaster TRM held a Press conference earlier this morning, where Corneliu Durnescu – the Director of the TV station Moldova1, and Daniela Crudu – Moldova’s Head of Delegation in Eurovision, announced that Etapa Nationala will not be going forward, and furthermore they confirmed that Moldova is withdrawing from Eurovision 2025, leaving 37 countries competing in Basel.

Multiple factors contributed to the decision to withdraw from the 2025 Eurovision Song Contest, as confirmed by TRM:

The decision was not an easy one, but necessary in the context of current events. This year’s national selection highlighted certain challenges, including a decline in public interest and the overall quality of the pieces and artistic performances. This generated a negative perception among specialists and the public, highlighting the need for a substantial reform of the selection process.

We consulted music experts, and most of them expressed serious reservations about Moldova’s participation this year, in exact agreement with the opinion of the jury that TRM selected for this edition. We respect the opinions of professionals and the general public, and we understand that we must make responsible decisions.

Daniela Crudu, Moldova’s Head of Delegation in Eurovision added:

This decision was not an easy one, but we assure you that it was analyzed in detail. We know that we would all have liked to organize a national final and designate the song that would represent us at the international stage. However, we firmly believe that this decision will boost the interest in participating in future editions. We will make sure that we will return to Eurovision with strength. It is important to support people who want to reach the big stages and to give them the opportunity to prepare better.

37 countries are now going to be competing in Eurovision 2025 in Basel. Will you miss Moldova, and would you like to see them back again next year? Let us know in the comment section below, or on our social media pages.
