Mamagama will represent Azerbaijan at Eurovision 2025

As it was announced a few days ago, Azerbaijani broadcaster, İctimai has revealed their representative at Eurovision Song Contest 2025 in Basel and it’s Mamagama.

Mamagama is an Azerbaijani band formed in 2021. The members of it are: Asaf (vocals), Huss (guitar)  and Arif (drums). The name of the band consist out of Mama which stands for the ultimate creator and the force that nurtures the world when necessary and Gama which refers to the highest frequencies within the spectrum of sound. One of the breakthroughs to the bigger audience was after they surprised audience of Albanian music festival Kënga Magjike in 2022 performing “Dreamer“. The following year, 2023, they were among the shortlisted candidates to represent Azerbaijan at Eurovision Song Contest but ultimately they lost against TuralTuranX and were not selected.

The song which they will be performing at Eurovision Song Contest 2025 will be revealed at a later date.

It’s an honour for me to be representing Azerbaijan on such a big stage with our culture. I deeply love the land where I was born, and this is a chance to share its beauty and spirit with all of Europe. Our song, which will be revealed very soon, is a true representation of our country’s essence. We are incredibly excited and believe that our entry will leave a lasting impact.

A total of 154 entries were submitted to the broadcaster and an 16 member jury which comprised out of 8 international and 8 Azerbaijani professionals decided that Mamagama will be waving the Azerbaijani flag in Basel. The Azerbaijani jury members were the following:

Aysel – Singer and representative of Azerbaijan ESC 2009
Balakishi Gasimov – General director of İctimai
Dihaj – Singer and representative of Azerbaijan ESC 2017
DJ Fateh – producer, television presenter, DJ and director of İctimai Radio
Elshad Khose – Rapper
Faig Sujaddinov – Composer and pianist
Heyder – DJ and producer
Rain Sultanov – jazz saxophonist and Honorary Artist of Azerbaijan

Azerbaijan will be competing in the second half of the first semi-final which is set to take place on 13th fo May. At last years edition of Eurovision, this Caucasus country marked second NQ in a row and 3rd in total as their first entry in Azerbaijani-English mix “Özünlə apar” performed by Fahree and Ilkin Dovlatov scored only 11 points and ended the contest on 14th place in first semi-final.
