MESC 2025 winner Miriana Conte has stated in an interview on Ras Imb Ras this morning that the EBU accepted the lyrics of the song ‘Kant.’

“The EBU has accepted that the song stays as it is and I don’t think we will have problems with this. The song will stay as it is but will be given a revamp. I have seen comments made about the BBC censoring the word ‘Kant’ which is a Maltese word but obviously has a double meaning. I don’t have much to say about this but I do understands the limitations of the radio stations.”

However, this does not align with an article published by The Times of Malta which states that the EBU has not given a clear answer on this. The Time of Malta contacted the EBU and asked directly about the matter and the EBU replied with:

“All participating broadcasters have until March 10 to formally submit their entries for the 2025 Eurovision Song Contest. If a song is deemed unacceptable for any reason, broadcasters are given the opportunity to modify it, or select a new one, before the deadline as per the rules of the contest.”

According to the Eurovision Song Contest’s Duty of Care document from 2024: “Swearing or any other language that is unacceptable, illegal, unethical, offensive, obscene, defamatory or deemed inappropriate for the ESC or otherwise offensive to public morals or decency shall not be allowed in the Lyrics or in the Act.”

The guidelines also state that lyrics and stage performances must be suitable for a prime-time, family-friendly audience.

Miriana Conte won MESC 2025 last Saturday after winning the televote with 94 points and coming second in the jury vote. ‘Kant’ was the first song to be performed from the 16-song lineup.
