Semi-final jury for Festival da Canção 2025 revealed
In the last few hours, RTP’s Instagram revealed the names that will make up the 7-member jury at Portugal’s 2025 national final, who will be responsible for 50% of the vote on each of the next two Saturday nights.
In the semi-finals, a 50-50 system between the expert jury and the public will select 5 acts out of 10 to qualify for the grand final, with the public alone deciding on a wildcard. The grand final has a slightly different system, wherein juries from Portugal’s 7 autonomous regions take over the role of the 7 music experts for 50% of the vote.
The names of this year’s jurors will be:
- Fábia Rebordão (singer-songwriter, wrote Pontas soltas for Jonas at FDC 2022)
- Iolanda (FDC 2024 winner, Portuguese representative at Eurovision 2024)
- Kady (Cape Verdean singer-songwriter, competed at FDC 2020 with Diz só)
- Margarida Pinto Correira (actor, journalist and podcaster)
- Martim Sousa Tavares (orchestra director and composer)
- Miguel Ribeiro (lead singer and guitarist of The Happy Mess, competed at FDC 2023 with O impossível)
- Tiago Nacarato (singer-songwriter, co-wrote Passe-Partout with Barbara Tinóco for FDC 2020)
This year, Festival da Canção will be in its 57th edition, one of the longest-running national finals in the Eurovision catalogue, as the broadcaster RTP celebrates its 90th anniversary. The show has an eclectic mix of former winners who’ve gone on to huge success in the Portuguese music scene, such as Dulce Pontes, Fernando Tordo and Lúcia Moniz. This success has been especially apparent since Portugal won Eurovision in 2017, after which time they’ve qualified for the grand final on all but one occasion.
Iolanda, who represented her country last year with Grito, finished a strong 10th in the final in Malmö. She’ll be on the semi-final expert jury in her country’s national final this year.
