Stereo Terror: “The ESC seems to keep growing and getting more interest of the people globally”
Soon we’ll get to find out who’ll carry the Estonian flag in Eurovision 2025, since the final of this year’s Estonian national selection, Eesti Laul 2025, takes place this Saturday in Tallinn. One of the finalists of Eesti Laul 2025 is the Finnish duo Stereo Terror, who is hoping to win the ticket to Basel with their song ”Prty till the end of the world”.
Stereo Terror is a dance/metal/electronic band founded in Hyvinkää, Finland in 2016. The founders and the active members of the band are Henry Uhlgren (HenryFied) and Saku Solin (Shag-U). Stereo Terror is known for their flagrant visuals, extremely energetic performances, their unique combination of metal and dance music and their ”anything can happen” -attitude while performing live. Before releasing their own music Stereo Terror gigged as a DJ duo and actively performed on festivals, clubs, cruises and numerous other events. The band released their first own single in June 2022.
We got a chance to ask a few questions from the duo right before they conquer the Eesti Laul stage. This is what Stereo Terror told us about their history, their relationship to Eurovision and some other things too:
Hello Stereo Terror and thank you for giving me this interview! At first I’d like to ask what is your relationship to Eurovision? Do you usually watch the contest and what are your favorite Eurovision songs?
HenryFied: Hi there, thanks for having us! For me, Blind Channel and Käärijä has activated to watch the Eurovision. The ESC seems to keep growing and getting more interest of the people globally, and as we know, it can be a huge step for artists to get their career the kickstart they need. If it’s not possible for me at the moment to watch the finals live, I just go to YouTube afterwards. I’d say that “the” ESC song for me is Hard Rock Hallelujah. There’s so many great success stories from there.Shag-U: I don’t think of myself as a superfan of Eurovisions, but naturally as a singer I’m interested in the talent of the singers. Amazing voices every year! Also the visual side and the show has been getting bigger and bigger which is always interesting to see!
Shag-U: We’ve known each other for nearly twenty years now give or take. Long time and lot’s of memories. Don’t really know how exactly but somehow we clicked quite well when we were youngsters and met here and there. Maybe one of the first steps towards Stereo Terror was when Henry asked me if I wanted to do some dj gigs at local clubs. Our home base was a rock club called Bar Bäkkäri where we played for many years. At some point we grew tired of “just” playing the same rock and metal songs since there are so many good songs out of those genres. We started to think “what kind of music we would love to hear in our own party. Which songs should be played there?” We got the opportunity to try this at one New Years party at Bäkkäri and it freaking worked. We combined everything from EDM to metal, rock to disco and people loved it! That was most likely the moment when we got the idea to make an artist for the concept. We started Stereo Terror as “just” a dj duo playing and remixin other artist songs, but a couple of years back we started to think of making this more us, and started to make our own music. Henry found Lauri Hämäläinen, who has been amazing producer for us while we have been searching for the ST sound. And we are still on that path!
HenryFied: Of course we first tried to our motherland Finland’s competition Uuden Musiikin Kilpailu. Since we didn’t made it to UMK and the song was already made for Eurovision, I started to scout other possibilities and found out that we can apply to Eesti Laul. When I got the terms right I called Shag-u that what he thinks and he was all over the idea, so here we are.
Mr. Finger (composer): Henkka and Saku from ST reached out to me early in the summer with a vision: they wanted a hard-hitting, Eurovision-style song. They asked, “Lauri, do you think you can pull this off?” and I just said, “Hold my beer!” The song’s message is all about living life to the fullest—no holding back. It’s about embracing who we are without worrying too much about what others think. I think we could all benefit from caring a little less about external judgments and just living fully. I know it’s not always easy, but that’s the goal, right?
HenryFied: Something big, maybe little familiar and totally new.
Shag-U: I think I can speak for both of us and say that Rob Zombie is the biggest influencer in our artist career.
HenryFied: For Stereo Terror and personally: Eesti Laul 100%.
Shag-U: I still enjoy listening to music. Love finding new artists and songs! Also diving deep with some games is totally my jam. Quite hectic live so somehow forgetting myself to the gaming world for a while really is relaxing.HenryFied: I’m rewatching my favorite series/movies which are still good comparing to the new products and smoke shisha. Videogames myself/with friends. Exploring new music. Trying to make some too.
Shag-U: It would be a big thing for sure! Would be amazing to see the production and meet with the other artists. And naturally show the whole world what it means to party till the end of the world!HenryFied: At the moment I could not imagine a bigger thing than to represent my other homeland in Eurovision Song Contest. Since I’m half Estonian (by my mothers side), this whole thing just hits a little different if that’s the right way to say. Would be HUGE!
HenryFied: We are so humbled and honored by all of the support. We are still doing everything without labels, so every little thing you do for us, means the world for us. We are here only because of you. Thanks for being there for us.
