VÆB won Söngvakeppnin 2025

The final of Söngvakeppnin has just finished and Icelandic representative at Eurovision Song Contest will be VÆB with “Róa”. The hosts of the show were: Guðrún Dís Emilsdóttir, Benedikt Valsson and Fannar Sveinsson. The venue where it took place was RVK Studios in Gufunes.

Running order was as follows:

  1. Ágúst – “Like You”
  2. Bjarni Arason – “Aðeins lengur”
  3. Júlí & Dísa – “Fire”
  4. Væb – “Róa”
  5. Tinna – “Words”
  6. Stebbi Jak – “Set Me Free”

The opening act of the night was the performance of Icelandic rapper and singer Hr. Hnetusmjör, during the night as interval acts we had a chance to watch the mashup of Hera Björk’s entries (Scared of Heights, Someday – DMGP 2009 and Je Ne Sais Quoi) after her there was a performance of Eurovision Song Contest 2023 runner up, Käärijä who was joined by Swedish duo Hooja.

Unlike the previous years when the show featured a 5 act grand finale this year the broadcaster scratched the wild card as the best three out of five semi-final acts advanced and we watched the 6 acts grand finale. Like in the previous editions of the show all songs will be performed in Icelandic in the semi-final while in the final the artists could perform the English language version of the song if that is the version which they would like to perform on the ESC 2025 stage. Another novelty was that for the first time since 2013 the decision of the winner wasn’t made after the super-final round. The ones who decided were the audience and international votes (50:50).

Seven international jury members casted their votes. They were as follows:

  • 🇳🇱 Sietse Bakker – Executive Producer of Eurovision 2021

  • 🇩🇰 Saba – Representative of Denmark at Eurovision 2024

  • 🇹🇷 Ersin Parlak – Music Agent and HoP for San Marino

  • 🇬🇧 Peter Fenner – Author of English lyrics for Icelandic entry at ESC 2007

  • 🇮🇪 Niamh Kavanagh – Winner of Eurovision 1993 representative of Ireland at Eurovision 2010
