Vilhelm Buchaus: “I’m Yours is about vulnerability, self-doubt, and a longing to be appreciated despite one’s flaws.”

The fifth heat of Melodifestivalen 2025 takes place tomorrow in Jönköping.  One of the contestants of tomorrow’s show is Vilhelm Buchaus, who is taking part of the Swedish national selection with his song “I’m Yours”, which he has written together with Elias Edman, Jonatan Lahti and Simon Alexander Ward. Even though Buchaus surely is very busy at the moment getting ready for the show, he still had time to answer a few questions we asked from him. This is what the artist told us about his relationship to Eurovision, his musical background, his upcoming stage show and some other things as well:

Hello Vilhelm Buchaus and thank you for giving me this interview! At first I’d like to ask what is your relationship to Eurovision? Do you usually watch the contest and what are your favorite Eurovision songs?
Hello and thank you so much for having me! I grew up watching Melodifestivalen and Eurovision as a kid. When I was younger my parents would let me stay up a bit longer past my bedtime to watch Eurovision. I remember staying up with my mom when I was 11 years old to watch Loreen win with “Euphoria”, which is also one of my favourite songs from Eurovision.
Could you tell us a little bit something about your musical background? How long have you been singing and do you play any instruments?
I’ve always been singing, playing and writing music. I first started to sing when I was about 5 or 6 years, I often had a guitar with me back then, but that was more for show! It wasn’t until I was 15 that I learned how to play the guitar and later piano, which really became a tool for me to find my own voice as a songwriter and a musician.
How was your song “I’m yours” born and how would you describe the song and the message of it?
“I’m Yours” was born about a year ago. I was writing it with my friends and we started the day off by writing a different song. We then went for lunch, and when we came back and listened back to that first song we all realised that I was unfortunately kind of bad. So we started to write a completely new song which became “I’m Yours”. We wrote it quite quickly and it was a fun song to write.
“I’m Yours” is about vulnerability, self-doubt, and a longing to be appreciated despite one’s flaws. I’ve always reflected a lot on the feeling of not being enough, and writing about it is a way for me to process those thoughts, which inspired much of this song.
What kind of stage show can we expect from you in Melodifestivalen?
I want my stage show to feel very intimate and my goal is to get the viewers to feel invited into my world.
What is the biggest achievement in your career so far?
To be selected to be apart of Melodifestivalen is by far my biggest achievement of my career so far. I’ve also just released my debut EP which I’m very proud of.
Who are your musical rolemodels?
I grew up listening to a lot of old music, and that’s where I’ve gotten a lot of my inspiration from. These are artists like Bruce Springsteen, Joni Mitchell and Bob Dylan.
If you could sing a duet with any former Swedish Eurovision representative, who would you choose and why?
“Hold me closer” by Cornelia Jakobs is one of my favourite songs, so I would love to do a duet with her.
What do you do when you don’t do music?
I haven’t really thought about that since I’ve always wanted to do music. Lately I’ve grown an interest in cooking, so probably a chef.
What would it mean to you to win Melodifestivalen and represent Sweden in Eurovision 2025?
It would mean the world! But I try not to think that far, I’m just very happy to be apart of Melodifestivalen!
What would you like to say to our readers and your fans from all over the world?
I’d like to thank you for having me and getting me an opportunity to talk about my music. I’m super excited to be apart of Melodifestivalen and I’ll make sure to enjoy it! I hope you’ll get the chance to see my performance! Thank you!
Thank you very much for the interview and the best of luck to Melodifestivalen!
