Iolanda and João Borsch among guest performers at Festival Da Canção 2025 grand final

According to a press release from the Portuguese broadcaster RTP, 2024’s Festival Da Canção winner and Eurovision 2024 Top 10 finisher Iolanda will perform in the grand final of this year’s edition on Saturday. In addition, last year’s FDC runner-up and televote winner João Borsch will perform, as well as Afro-jazz musician Huca and avant-pop singer Maria João, who both competed in semi-final 2 last year.

Other performers listed to take part in the lengthy interval section include singer-songwriters The Legendary Tigerman and Ana Lua Caiano, and prog band Expresso Transatlântico, who’ve collabed with FDC 2019 winner Conan Osíris in the past.

This year’s interval performances on the show notorious for its coverage of the Portuguese indie scene have so far included Funana band Fogo Fogo performing the Afro-funk-inspired Umbadá, and Os Assesors, Sara Correira, Selma Uamusse and Ana Bacalau performing a medley of FDC 1975 songs on the 50th anniversary of the first post-dictatorship festival.

On Saturday, at 10pm CET on RTP1, twelve acts, including favourites Fernando Daniel, Josh, Napa, Henka and Peculiar, will perform for a second time to impress the seven regional juries and the public, who will vote in a 50/50 system to decide who wins Portugal’s ticket to Basel. Iolanda has already served as part of the 7-member expert jury who were responsible for half the votes in the semi-finals.

The winner on Saturday will go alongside some of the key names from Portuguese music history who’ve won the coveted festival in its 60+ year history, including Fernando Tordo, Dulce Pontes, Lúcia Moniz and Salvador Sobral, who won Eurovision for the country in 2017. They’ll also be hoping to back up Portugal’s recent strong run at Eurovision, which has seen them finish in the Top 10 on two occasions this decade so far, including last year, with Iolanda’s Grito.

Josh blew it with his stage presentation. It was boring, simplistic and gimmicky. Henka’s was kind of off and didn’t translate well on the stage. But Napa? How did this song come to win? How?
