Listen to “Wasted Love” by JJ – Austrian entry for Eurovision 2025

On 30th of January, Austrian broadcaster, ORF has revealed that their 58th representative at Eurovision Song Contest will be a 23 years old, Austrian-Filipino countertenor, Johannes Pietsch whose stage name is JJ. Austrian entry was revealed this morning traditionally on the radio show Ö3-Wecker.

Prior to that the members of press who got a special invitation, yesterday had a chance to attend an event at the Vienna State Opera which showcased the song, it was the same case like last year when Kaleen’s song was presented. JJ will sing “Wasted Love” which was selected among the songs of the first songwriting camp for Eurovision Song Contest held in Austria. Three different jury panels were in charge of the selection. One consisted out of 30 international and national music experts, then a panel of 30 Eurovision fans from five OGAE clubs and an editorial team of ORF. The authors behind the song include:  Teodora Špirić (Teya) who was half of the duo representing Austria at Eurovision 2023 with “Who The Hell is Edgar?” in addition to that she competed at Beovizija 2020 with “Sudnji dan” and was behind two songs at this year national final season. Maltese “Heaven Sent” and Polish “Hold the Light” Thomas Turner and artists himself. You can check out the music video of “Wasted Love” below

JJ was born in 2001 and grew up in Dubai before returning back to Austria in 2016. He is performing at the Vienna State Opera and some of his roles were in Die ZauberflöteVon der Liebe TodTschick, and other pieces. Johannes is a student of classical music at Music and Art Private University of Vienna (MUK). Austrian audience had a chance to hear JJ before as he was one of the finalist of music show “Starmania” in 2021.
