Žan Serčič: “I have big plans for the night of EMA!”

Žan Serčič is one of the youngest participants at this years EMA – Slovenian preselection for 61st edition of Eurovision Song Contest. He’ll try his luck at this years’ EMA – but we’ve took an opportunity to talk with this talented guy, so check our interview below:

Firstly, congratulations for qualifying for EMA 2016! How did you decide to enter the contest this year?
Thank you! I always have been watching EMA since I was only 8 years old, and I wanted to enter the competition eventually when I started my musical career in Slovenia. So I’ve waited for the right song, and this year I’ve decided to give Slovenia, or by best chances ever represent it, with something new and unique.

Apart from EMA, what would you say is your biggest achievement in your music career so far?
I’d say by biggest achievement was to earn my place in the finals of a very well known show Slovenia’s got talent in 2011. That is what really started my musical journey as an author and a performer, and still is to this day where some people may remember me from.

Have you ever sent a song for the Slovenian Eurovision preselection in the past as well?
This was actually my first time, as I said, I was waiting for the right song to happen. Many have I written but never before had a song that I would wanna represent myself with, because I was looking for my kind of music style.

EMA is already a festival tradition in Slovenia, have you been following it in the past years and if so, do you have your all-time favourite song?
My all time favourite has to be Maja Keuc, just for the astounishing performance and also the song itself was quite a masterpiece.

So, Žan, let’s talk more about your song. What’s the main message of it, and what type of a song can we expect from you?
My song for EMA contest is very catchy, so beware to sing it for the next week after hearing it for the first time.. 😛 My song has a story in both lyrical and instrumental part of it, and both have a direct message on the listener. However, the feeling in the song is loose, groovy and makes you wanna dance.

Interesting, we’re looking forward to hear it! But can you tell us something more about the team behind this song?
The whole song was recorded at Pre Sound Studios in Slovenia, where a lot of great musicians and producers come to record and just to have fun. However, I recorded all of the instruments by myself, since I know how to play guitar, bass, ukulele, percussions, etc.

Everything on your own? Well done! What about staging? Do you already have some stage plans? How is everything going to look like on the night of EMA?
I have big plans for the night of EMA, but it would be a shame to reveal all of it, since then it wouldn’t be such a surprise.. 🙂 I can only say that it will all be very summer oriented, and almost like a party going on on stage.

What would winning EMA and representing Slovenia in Eurovision mean to you?
It would mean the world to me. I would really like to represent my country, because I want to show the world what Slovenia is capable of making – since I think my song is something new. However, that comes with a lot of responsibility since the whole country is cheering for you, but I’m all up for it.

Do you usually follow Eurovision, and do you have a favourite Eurovision song?
Yes I usually do, one of my favorite songs of all, performed on Eurovision, has to be Alexander Rybak – Fairytale, but I liked a lot of others too. Every year I have my favorite.

How would you describe yourself in three words?
Fun, easygoing, entrepreneur.

What do you usually do when you are not singing?
I play my guitar a lot, I am also a teacher in a music school and I go to the gym a lot too. I also am cooking everyday (I love to cook).

And finally, do you have a message for all of the readers of ESCBubble, who will support you in EMA?
