George Michaelides: ”I hope you will all enjoy my performance!”

A few weeks ago, George Michaelides was selected to represent Cyprus at the Junior Eurovision Song Contest 2016, with his song ”Dance Floor”. He took the time to talk to ESCBubble about his song and his participation in Junior Eurovision, this year:

What was your first reaction when you were told that you would represent your country at the Junior Eurovision Song Contest 2016?

I was just shocked! It took a couple of days for me to process it really. It’s only now during the preparations and rehearsals that I realize that this is really happening!!

How did your friends and family react when they found out that you would represent Cyprus in Valletta?

Everyone has been so supportive. When they first heard most of my family cried and my friends jumped up and screamed.

What does it mean to you to get the chance to represent your country at the Junior Eurovision Song Contest?

I feel honoured that I have the chance to represent my country and my generation doing something that I love to do.

What are you most looking forward to in Valletta? Is it the first time you will be going to Malta?

This will be my first trip to Malta so I’m really excited. Everyone that I know that has been has said so many wonderful things about the island. I don’t know how much I will get to see but I’ve heard it’s very beautiful.

Are you a Junior Eurovision fan? What are your favourite entries from the past years?

My family, well my mom is a very big Eurovision fan and every year we have Eurovision night at our home where we all have our own score sheets! For Junior Eurovision I have to say my friend Sophia Patsalides with “I pio omorfi mera”.  She is a very talented singer/songwriter.

How would you describe your song ‘’Dance floor’’ in a few words?

Dance floor was written because of my love and passion of dance. How it makes me feel, how I come alive when I hear and feel a beat. I love to perform and dancing is a big part of my performances.

Besides singing, do you have other passions/hobbies?

Dancing, I also love sport – football, athletics cricket, swimming and judo (I’m currently a blue belt). I am also learning to play the drums.

Do you have any special ideas for your performance in Valletta?

Can’t say much , you will all have to watch!!

What would you like to say to your fans that are going to support you at the Junior Eurovision Song Contest 2016?

I would like to say thank you for supporting me I love reading all the messages and post of support and I hope you will all enjoy my performance.
