Franklin is back in the Maltese national selection for the Eurovision Song Contest for the 5th year in-a-row. His best result came last year when he finished in third place with the song “Little Love”. This year he is hoping for the number one spot at the Maltese Eurovision selection with his song “Follow Me”.

We had a small chat with Franklin, where we asked him about his new song and the team behind it, the rule-change in the national final, as well as some more personal questions in order to get to know him a little better. Read everything he told us in this interview right here:

Hi Franklin! Congratulations for making it to the MESC Final once again! For the start of the interview, can you tell us more about the story behind your song, and the team who worked on it?

“Follow Me” is a heartfelt ballad with a message to all those who are going through a rough path. By following me and listening to the message of the song, they will surly gain courage.

There’s a big team behind the song. Apart from my tutors, the authors of “Follow Me” are Ivan Grech, a well known composer, author and singer in Malta, together with Muxu who won the Junior Eurovision twice  – in 2013 and 2015, and the song’s composer Cyprian Cassar.

How are you getting ready for the night of the final?

Preparations are at their full swing and obviously excitement starts to kick in as well. I’m having lots of rehearsals to ensure that I’ll be spot on on the final night.

What do you usually do when you are not singing?

Usually I’m at work haha.. But well, when I have some free time I love to chill with my friends and go around fashion shops looking and buying new clothes.

What do you think of the rule change in this year’s MESC, that only the public will pick the winner?

I believe that the Maltese public are wise enough to choose the best song and singer amongst the 16 finalists.

Why should you be the one to represent Malta in Kiev this year?

The song and its message are powerful enough to compete against other songs in Kiev, and obviously I really believe that “Follow Me” can do well 🙂

Who do you think is your biggest competition to win this year?

As in previous years, there’s a big competition this year as well. I think every song has its own potential.

Are you currently involved in any other projects?

I’m a resident singer in one of the most popular TV Shows in Malta – “Hadd Ghalik”.

Franklin, we also have a couple of questions for you just to get to know you a little bit better. What would be your favorite book?

I really like to read and get to know more about ghosts and fashion stuff. Basically those are my favorite kinds of books.

Your favorite movie?

Comedy for sure, spy!

Your own signature dish?

Pasta with grilled chicken in white sauce. mm i’m getting hungry!

What would you bring to a desert island?

My mobile. I’m a Facebook addict.

Your ideal duet-partner would be?

Joseph Calleja, our very own Maltese tenor who is making a huge impact around the world with his huge voice.

The last song you listened to was…?

My own song, “Follow Me” haha.
