Earlier today, Danish broadcaster DR have released their rules for Dansk Melodi Grand Prix 2019.

DR’s Chief Entertainment, Jan Lagermand Lundme, is very happy with Rasmussen’s very respectable 9th placing in Lisbon earlier this year and is enthusiastic and wants to continue in this good flow!

About the songs DR is looking for, he says:

We are looking for quality songs with a big chorus that one remembers. When we get to Eurovision, there’s approximately 40 songs in total, so in order to stand a chance to do well, we’ve got to come with something of high quality and something that stands out, so the viewers can remember us.

One way to do that is by continuing something DR started with last year: an entry producer! This is Mads Enggaard and he makes sure the entries are a unity between the singing, the stage show and the singer itself, so that the eventual winner can represent Denmark in the best way possible.
Which is what Rasmussen did earlier this year, states Lagerman Lundme! He adds: ”As Danes we can be superproud of what we sent this year and our ambition is to succeed again in 2019!”

The rules themselves adhere to the Eurovision rules. Foreign composers are invited to send their songs but there has to be a Danish citizen or have corresponding, strong relations to Denmark, which is defined as: ”residence in Denmark for a considerable number of years, marriage to or cohabitation with a Dane, etc.”

The deadline is on the 26th of September, those will be considered for Dansk Melodi Grand Prix 2019. Songs sent in after that might be considered for that edition, but there is also a good chance they go into the Dansk Melodi Grand Prix 2020 box to be considered for the year after!
