Daði Freyr won’t be participating at Söngvakeppninn as a singer!
Eurovision 2020 has been cancelled and the songs which were to be performed at it won’t be possible to perform them at Eurovision 2021. Icelandic hopeful for the Eurovision Song Contest this year should’ve been Daði Freyr Pétursson and his band Gagnamagnið after they won Söngvakeppnin 2020.
In an interview, Daði stated that he won’t be back for the Söngvakeppnin 2021 as a singer. He also said that it wasn’t so frustrating to him but that he feels sad for the missed opportunity to participate at Eurovision
No, I will not take part in the singing competition. We have won this competition once and if I went back then you would feel like people should just pick a person out because we had won once and did not go to the competition. It would then not come out well for me to re-enter and not win the race.

Daði Freyr Pétursson has previously been participating at Söngvakeppnin 2017 where he ended at 2nd place with the song “Is This Love?” and he has been the author of the Icelandic lyrics of the song “Elta þig” performed by Elísabet at Söngvakeppnin 2020.
