Following some information that became known just yesterday, today La Stampa is provding even more news about what to expect in Turin for Eurovision 2022. They have confirmed that the Eurovillage will be located in Piazza Castello! If you can remember the 2006 Winter Olympics, this was the site of the ‘Medal Plaza’. Piazza Castello is a beating heart of the city and numerous events take place here every year.
Other news from today have to do with the preparations for Piazza Castello itself. Here, a stage will be built equipped with two layer towers and side and rear covers with audio mixers and lights in the front. Around these towers for the stage there will be many structures, 15 of which will be built specifically for the Eurovillage, while others still will function as backstage. From the perspective of mayor Stefano Lo Russo, he and his administration have stated they wish to create events that have an impact on the city.
Their main goal now is to create events that will compliment Eurovision itself at the Pala Alpitour (Pala Olimpico) and launch a huge promotional campaign. This means 10 days of events that take over the city. While the exact list of events is still to be determined, La Stampa is reporting that there will be no giant screen installed for fans to follow what’s happening in the arena.
In terms of what to expect from the Pala Alpitour, little has been revealed. The city of Turin has less to do with that, so we will have to wait for updates from RAI and the EBU. For now, it has been confirmed that the areas dedicated to the press and delegations will be linked together.
Lastly, the City of Turin has now officially given the green light to sign the documents that have to do with Eurovision. The next big event will of course be the Semi Final Allocation Draw on 25th January at Palazzo Madama. Dutch authorities and the current mayor of Rotterdam, Ahmed Aboutaleb, are scheduled to attend, for now. As always, everything will depend on the Covid-19 situation at the time.
