Australia will select internally for Eurovision 2023

For the past few years, even though for most people it took place on the other side of the world, Eurovision fans would follow the national selection ‘Down Under’. Today, however, it was revealed that the Australian artist(s) for Eurovision 2023 will be chosen internally!

Eurovision – Australia Decides was the name of the selection that gave us Kate Miller-Heidke, Montaigne and Sheldon Riley. The expectation was that the selection would run next year as well. After the announcement being delayed, rumours of an internal selection started to surface.

Today, a spokesperson of broadcaster SBS confirms:

We are thrilled to confirm that Australia will once again compete in the 67th Eurovision Song Contest next year, with hosts Myf Warhurst and Joel Creasey at the helm. However, after three years of celebrating and working with local music artists through our Eurovision selection show, Eurovision – Australia Decides, we’ve made the difficult decision not to go ahead with the program in 2023.

Over the past few months, we have been exploring ways we could deliver the event to Australian audiences next year however, a variety of factors contributed to us coming to this decision.

We are proud to continue to be the home of the Eurovision Song Contest and we look forward to celebrating 40 years of broadcasting Eurovision to all Australians in the coming year.

Further details about this internal selection for the Eurovision Song Contest 2023 in Liverpool are not known as of yet.

Earlier this year, as the last winner of Eurovision – Australia Decides so far, Sheldon Riley represented Australia at the Eurovision Song Contest with ‘Not The Same’:

Are you disappointed with Eurovision – Australia Decides not taking place? Or are you actually excited by the choice being an internal one this time? And who do you think SBS should try to get?
