Mia Nicolai & Dion Cooper release ‘Burning Daylight’ for the Netherlands

They were one of the first Eurovision 2023 artists to be revealed (way back in November!), and now the day has finally come when we can enjoy Mia Nicolai and Dion Cooper’s Eurovision song. They will represent the Netherlands in Liverpool with “Burning Daylight”!

The song was written by Nicolai and Cooper, with the help of Eurovision 2019 winner, Duncan Laurence and his partner Jordan Garfield.

The artists

Mia Nicolai: Michaja Nicolaï released her first single back in 2018 and attended music school in London. Since then she’s worked in the industry in Melbourne and most recently Los Angeles, where she met “Burning Daylight” co-author Jordan Garfield.

Dion Cooper: Dion Cuiper has been singing and performing for more than ten years now and released his first EP in 2020. He became known to the Dutch public in 2015 when he participated in The Voice of Holland, and in 2021, he was part of Duncan Laurance’s 2021 Dutch Tour.

Since the Semi Finals were introduced in 2004, the Netherlands have qualified for the Grand Final 9 times out of 18 attempts, however the Dutch do have a good streak going after famously missing out on the Final eight times in a row from 2005-2012! The Dutch last missed the Grand Final in 2015 and since then have qualified six times consecutively, including in 2019 when Duncan Laurence won in Tel Aviv.

Mia and Dion will perform in the second half of Semi Final 2 in Liverpool on 11th May.

What do you think of the Dutch song for Liverpool? How do you think it will do – can Duncan’s touch get the Dutch a sixth victory to tie Sweden’s record? Let us know below in the comments!
