The fourth song of this year’s Uuden musiikin kilpailu (UMK) has been released. You can listen to the song ”Aina” by Viivi here:
Viivi Mirette Korhonen, professionally known as Viivi, is a 25-year-old singer-songwriter from Joroinen. She started her singing career at very young age, when in 2009 she participated in the kid’s singing competition Karuselli, finishing second. The following year she participated in the contest again and won. In 2013 she took part in the first season of Finland’s The Voice Kids, finishing second.
In 2017 Viivi made a recording deal with Capitol Records. Her debut single ”Sä päätit tän” was released in February 2020, and her second single ”Lauseet on vain lauseita” came out in June 2020. The song ”Lääke”, which came out in December 2020, was ranked third on Finland’s official singles list in January 2021, six weeks after it was published.
Viivi’s debut album ”Parisuhdehautausmaa” was published in March 2022. The album won three Emma Awards (Finnish Grammy Awards) and Viivi won the newcomer of the year award.
In 2022 Viivi also released a single ”Ihana kipu”, which was a duet with UMK23 finalist Robin Packalen. The single broke Spotify Finland’s daily streaming record for this decade. At the beginning of 2024, Viivi joined Warner Music Finland.
According to YLE, Viivi’s career has taken significant turns, but its core has remained the same:
”Writing songs is really important to me. When I’m involved in making the songs myself, the songs look like me and you can clearly hear my voice in them. My hobby has become my life’s work, and that’s really cool”, says Viivi.
Viivi tells YLE that she had been planning applying for UMK for a long time, but she wanted to wait for the right song:
”The song must have a ‘douze points’ vibe! Aina is loaded with such an indescribable emotion that it requires an arena to perform it. I feel like this is the most important song in my career”, Viivi concludes.
This is what the expert jury of UMK25 said about Viivi and her song ”Aina”:
”Viivi’s Aina will certainly be sung and heard at weddings years from now, because it is such a fantastic description of lifelong love and partnership. The song is full of beauty and hope. The fine lyrics have many layers that give you shivers and tears time and again. The song is really dynamic, growing from the tender beginning to an epic ending. At the same time, it retains the authenticity and sensitivity that immediately captures the audience, thanks to Viivi’s beautiful and expressive voice.”
