SVT announce their plans for Melodifestivalen 2019!

Today SVT have gone out with an open invitation to songwriters to send in their best songs for Melodifestivalen 2019!

SVT look back on their 2018 Melodifestivalen season as successful, referencing Benjamin’s respectable 7th place in Lisbon and say it’s their pleasure to now invite anyone who think he or she has the song that will make Sweden win once again, to send it in!

This will be possible from the 31st of August and this window, on their official site, will close on the 17th of September at 17:59 CET.

The plan is to have the same amount of entries competing as this year, 28, of which 14 will be picked by a jury and the remaining 14 by SVT themselves. Of the 14 entries picked by SVT, one place is already reserved for one of the finalists in the annual competition ”P4 Nästa”.

The full set of rules can be found here in Swedish.

Christer Björkman himself is still the leading man for Melodifestivalen and with big enthusiasm he states:

After an intensive Melodifestivalen year with yet another top placing for Sweden at the Eurovision Song Contest, we now look forward to a new season of Melodifestivalen on tour around Sweden.
As usual it’s diversity, versatility and variety we want and that’s why we’re looking for songs in various languages, genres and styles.

The entry that gave Sweden yet another top 10 finish, a 7th place, was ‘Dance You Off’ by Benjamin Ingrosso:

Since Björkman mentioned different styles and diversity: what kind of songs would you like to see in Melodifestivalen 2019?

Well, uh, considering that there were no rock entries in 2018, they should’ve just added more of that.
