The Finnish broadcaster YLE has announced the finalists of this year’s Uuden musiikin kilpailu (UMK). The seven finalists are:
- Neea River – Nightmares
- Nelli Matula – Hitaammin hautaan
- Costee – Sekaisin
- Viivi – Aina
- One Morning Left – Puppy
- Goldielocks – Made Of
- Erika Vikman – Ich komme
The competing songs will be released during this and next week, one song every weekday, starting tomorrow, January 9th and ending Friday January 17th. The first song to be released is “Nightmares” by Neea River. We’ll tell you more about each artist and their song when the songs are released.
During the 2020’s UMK has become probably the biggest music event in Finland, and many of the competing songs have become big hit songs. Success of UMK has also reflected to Finland’s success in Eurovision: Since 2021 Finland has qualified for the Grand Final every year, and finished in Top 10 twice, in 2021 with Blind Channel’s ”Dark Side” and in 2023 with Käärijä’s ”Cha Cha Cha”.
The final of UMK25 will take place in February 8th 2025 in Tampere’s Nokia Arena. As we can remember, last year UMK was won by Windows95Man and Henri Piispanen. They carried the Finnish flag in Malmö with their song ”No Rules!”, finishing 19th in the Grand Final:
